Pretty fighting ship.
Extremely sad that she's being used as an articifial reef.
But at least sport divers will be able to 'check' her out.

Sad end to an honorable ship. A better end than being sold for scrap though.

(You've got to hand it to the IRS. If not, they'll come and take it.)

The Mighty Lady should never be forgotton for the tragic fire of '66 in which dozens of sailors died.
This photo is from Life Magazine's Nov 66 edition and lengthly story on the fire. I served aboard The Mighty "O" during the '70 Vietnam cruise and served as the Oriskany Webmaster in the late '90s.

1966 fire aboard U.S.S. Oriskany, CV-34. Looking down the starboard cat towards the island. The fire started just below deck in this area.

Really? That ship represents so much of the Vietman war to me. The bravery and ultimate sacrafices by too many of our generation. I just hate to see her sunk.
Thank you for your service to our country. You're one of the best. McNamara was wrong. He and his elitists were never the brightest nor the best. You guys were then, and you are now.

I served in the OE division from May 63 to Jan 66.
I had lots of good times over seas on the Big "O".
At least they didn't cut her up so she will
be around for a long, long time.
