Like many others, I find the concept of plainclothes, gun-carrying officers aboard aircrafts more alarming than reassuring.

The unilateralist U.S. administration is once again exporting its policies and deciding how the world is to be policed.

We're unilateralist when we don't involve others. We're unilateralist when we do. I'm beginning to get the feeling "unilateralist" is the new lefty version of "ya know" or "like" or "uh." Something to toss in to fill up dead air when you can't think of exactly what to say, but it doesn't really mean anything.

And the unpleasant ordeal of 11 hours spent panicking about the possibility of being on board a plane with a man with a gun .....

Panicking about the possibility of being near a cop with a gun? Sounds mighty suspiscious there Ms. de Sybel. Would you mind opening your carry-on? And why exactly do you need these five pound bags of "oregano"?

Your "movements"? Is this related to that complaint about not being able to use the bathroom again? That's disgusting.

Threaten the authority of the pilots? How does that work? "Okay, flyboy! Instead of going straight to Salk Lake City, land the plane in Reno for a couple hours. Me and the boys here want to play the slots and see a show. We got the guns, so do it!"

... but I can see little that can be achieved by having an armed person aboard a plane.

The U.S. administration has harangued countries into its version of "protecting" the world, one from which we may in fact need protection.
