Rocker Ted Nugent Driven Out Of Home By Mold
Wife Experiences Health Problems

POSTED: 7:39 p.m. EDT July 7, 2003

Rocker Ted Nugent and his family were apparently forced out of their Jackson, Mich., home after it was found to be contaminated with mold.

Nugent's wife, Shemane, was also experiencing health problems believed to be a result of the mold found in the home.

"We've been told that we can't go back in there, that there's mold contamination throughout the house. We might lose everything in there, my photo albums, Ted's trophies, all of our clothes, everything," Shemane told the Macomb (Mich.) Daily.

Shemane Nugent told the paper the contamination apparently stems from a water leak in the roof of their 5,000-square-foot home where the couple has lived for more than 10 years.

Nugent reportedly moved out of the home in March with Shemane and their 12-year-old son, Rocco. The family is currently staying in one of Nugent's cabins in northern Michigan, according to the paper.

"I went to a toxicologist in Royal Oak and they tested 12 vials of my blood," Shemane Nugent told the paper. "I was just feeling tired all the time and kept getting these migraine headaches. They found four mold types in my blood stream and said I had pre-emphysema and pre-asthma conditions that may be related to the mold exposure. Fortunately, Rocco didn't get too sick."

Steve Hall, assistant environmental director for the Jackson County Health Department, said his investigators have not been called to the Nugent home for an inspection.

"Normally, we refer people with mold problems to any one of the private remediation companies we keep a list of. Some mold is easily cleaned up with chlorine, but it really depends on the nature and the extent of the growth," Hall said.

Shemane Nugent said her family is consulting with an attorney and may pursue legal action later this year, according to the report.

Ted Nugent was continuing a tour through the United States last week.

Thanks for the link. I remember seeing the Nugents on Fox & Friends discussing this. If I recall correctly, they wrote a book about their experience with toxic mold.
