No, the 18% Conservatives not voting for Bush are the foolish ones who imagine that in a nation of 280 million they can wait for someone who agrees with them 100% and not support anyone else, and that will somehow help Conservative causes. NOT.
-----------------------
So, what did the 82% get for their trouble? A combination of Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter without Monica Lewinsky?

They either leave or go back to hiding in the shadows, but if along with this bill comes serious penalties on employers who hire illegal aliens, like Perp Walks on FOX NEWS, They might reconsider violating our laws and either apply for an extension or leave and reenter at the first opportunity.
I believe in going after those who hire the illegals, Those employers are violating at least 8 to 12 laws on the books, everything from tax evasion, racketeering, fraud, countless labor laws, and conspiracy. If we start locking the employers up. That way, the penalty of violating the law will send a clear message that we are not putting up with this kind of nonsense any longer.I don't think GWB is playing politics with the issue itself, but I'm willing to bet he is with the timing

The speaker and guest of honor is Tom Tancredo.
Tell him for all of us that were behind him.
BTW. Glad your back.
You should look really hard at Tancredo`s proposals. They are not as good as you may think. I have been getting some advice on him from a good friend. And if what I am hearing is true, I am not on the Tancredo bandwagon. "Guest worker" programs are not the answer. The H1B visa program ( temp. worker program ) should be a big clue to that. If any plan comes out of Congress that has a "temporary worker" program attached, I am not for it !! Accept nothing less than what should be done. The only way to make the Bush program work is to pair it with immigration law enforcement.
Otherwise the lawbreakers will continue to act brazenly and ignore the law.

I think some of those fools actually would *like* Gore President so they have something they can *really* whine about.
-------------------------
I have no reason to believe a Gore presidency would have been more destructive to the country than a Bush presidency. According to the election results, most of the people in the country didn't see any difference.

Yep. The devil's in the details. I think we all want to know what kind of teeth this thing will have.

Since none of those issues are addressed in the proposal put forth by the White House, They will have to be during the debate that is certainly coming.
I don't want to sound like a smart ass, but it's our civic duty to voice our concerns to our elected officials, Free Republic is as good as any to organize a significant response

Well, I've heard that kind of talk from my Liberal Democrat freinds and family but I know in my bones it total and utter bunk. If you want to help the Socialists and Liberals gain power, it's your right, but dont call yourself 'conservative' your just embarrassing us.

Those Perp Walks up on Wall Street had a significant effect on those corporate crooks, Hand cuffing the CEO of Del Monte Foods will have a serious impact as well.

Does Bush mean that in 3 years most of these currently here illegals will really be leaving this country?
-------------------------
They will become part of a steadily increasing army sneaking more of their pals in. The process will be unstoppable.

That's exactly why I asked your opinion.
This is a response I am formulating and will give to Senator Cornyn in due course - perhaps as early as next week.

That's what needs to happen.
But I fear that Bush's motives are geared more toward pleasing Vicente Fox, who does not recognize our borders, than in tightening our border security.
