I think these eggs are also fascinating and poignant in terms of politics and history. The communists had no qualms murdering the imperial family (often depicted on these eggs) but kept and prized these miniature works of art meant for them. They obviously sold a number of them to raise hard currency as well. These eggs represented things Communism stood against. Religion, the Russian Monarchy and wealth. I wonder if anyone saw the eggs while communism still ruled in Russia and if you got a lecture on the evils of the Romanoffs when viewing them? On the other hand I don't doubt radical Islam would have no qualms smashing them to bits if it gained control over them.

Anyone know the story of the last egg Nicholas gave to Alexandra? It had a yellow rose in it and soon after they were killed. Hense the yellow rose is bad luck, so says an aticle in Arts And Antiques.
