I've posted in the past that I believe there should be a "guest worker" program

We already have 4 types of guest worker program's and one of them is for agricultural. That is why this whole deal bunk.

You mean most *illegal* immigrants play by the rules? Is this what you mean? Surely I'm misunderstanding.

"And yes, I am attending my local republican party precinct meeting tonight."

I await a full report (honestly).

The timing is perfect - please let us know what the general consensus on this is.

"Ever try to turn in an illegal? Ever try to call the cops when you witnessed phony ss and dl lic? You are the criminal, and you are under scrutiny."

I know what you mean but the truth of the matter is that the County Sheriff is the highest law officer within any given county. If he doesn't arrest illegals and hold them until the INS comes and picks them up, he is negligent in his duties as sheriff. The residents of the county should demand that he do his duty.

What has any of this to do with the abject failure of conservatism to solve the problem. Saying . . . I can't turn anyone in because then I am suspected of being a criminal . . . that's just further looking to the government to solve a problem.

There is no escaping this. Our extremists are posturing in self righteous anger because, while they spend most of their time posting about their distaste for government action, they didn't hear Bush announce a greater magnitude of government action.

Think of how absurd this logic is.

I think this is a master stroke... might win new mexico, arizona and give him a chance in caleeeforneea ... at least he is on offense!

On the contrary, it reminds me of the final years of the Roman Empire, which increasingly relied on non-Romans. The result will be the same.

I'm also curious as to how the American farming industry would recover from the major wage increases it would face when it had to pay average citizens higher wages plus benefits

A guest farm worker program has been in effect for years. These illegals are not farm workers. Do you really know the issue?

>>3. Bear down HARD on the remaining illegals, and begin to treat them as that: ILLEGAL. Without remorse and without shame, get rid of them.<<

Do you honestly think this is the goal, when the laws we ALREADY HAVE are not being enforced? I don't see it happening. Maybe I'm wrong.

What does this mean? Is this another outcry at the horror of allowing a human born in the US to be a citizen, as opposed to undoing that law and managing the population on the basis of genetics?

This would trash all respect for US territoriatlity. Humans born here are Americans. Shipping Americans south and condemning them to 3rd world care is as unAmerican a thing as can be imagined.

Way too many people here are trying to elect a Democrat.

No, our immigration laws don't work or make us proud. You know why? Because we don't make an effort to enforce them. It's like telling your kid to clean his room, having him watch TV instead, and then having him look you in the eye and say, "you know the system we're using to get my room cleaned up just isn't working".

Excellent analogy. Using an abundance of words, Bush essentially backed down from enforcing the law (current visa requirements).

>> I'll bet local law enforcement is wondering, what the heck do we do now with illegals that we catch.<<

I don't know what it's like where you live, but local law enforcement here is actually prohibited from getting involved with immigration issues. They can pull someone over who is an illegal, and cannot report them to INS. I kid you not.

This is absolute insanity. Anyone who says that the laws are being enforced doesn't know what they are talking about.

In other words, the
we are getting here is based on the
we got a long time ago!

Great post, now I see how some here in Nevada can contend that the
that Nevada got when the Lincoln administration made Nevada's surrender of her public lands a condition of statehood is constitutional.

They simply engage in the same sort of selective memory you have illustrated.
