See Afghanistan, c. 2001.
I rather doubt that we would make much of a distinction between such an attack on Toronto and one on Buffalo, don't you?
We've got tens of thousands of Muslims in our military fighting in the war of terror. Are you proposing that we show them animosity?
These people are stupid -- they need to realize that another attack will only make our resolve stronger, and our vengeance more bloody. If they really want the US public to quit fighting them, they need to quit attacking and threatening us. Then, after a while, the US public will lose interest....
OBL could could possibly remain alive but I doubt it. If a clear videotape is issued starring OBL that indicates conclusively that he is alive, with, say, a current newspaper in the picture and no evidence of creative splicing, then I would accept that he is alive. But AQ doesn't do videos any more. They are harder to fake than audios.
My daughter and son-in-law are headed for France this weekend. They have promised not to fly out of either London or Paris. I hope to be in email contact with them as they travel around Europe.
Think of Japan. There's not one worthwhile natural resources on the rock called Japan - not oil, not gold, not silver, not copper, nothing. The soil's bad, mountains cover much and everything's in an earthquake zone. In spite of that, they're a wealthy county.
Now compare that to any Muslim country and you'll see it's not the wealth you bring up from the ground that matters, it's the ideas, beliefs, and culture that makes the difference.
If you put the average Muslim country on a pool of oil, a mountain of diamonds, and a river of silver, they would still be poor and corrupt. Their hopelessness against the fates, anger against all who don't feel as they do, and blind worship of leaders known best for narrow brutality has doomed Muslims to second class citizenship in the world. It's time they took responsibility for their own fate. Time for reformation and reality. And if not reformation, they need to understand they've made the choices that have kept them poor ... and quit blaming the rest of us.
My impression is that some areas of the Mideast are getting more Westernized which is counter to the aims of the Muslim faith.
