The author is simply bending Biblical terminology to our own time. GW Bush is the closest analogue to a Biblical "ruler," so the author just uses that word instead of tortured prose in making his point.

OK, I can buy that. "Tortured prose" RIP! :)

Personally, I'll cut Willie some slack. His politics are unreconstructed Great Depression New Deal, Central Texas variety. He's like great aunt Polly, who will never forsake the late, great Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
I've got loads of family who are just as naive -- but they can't write "Hello, Walls", pick a guitar or sing "Whiskey River".
Willie remains one of the five or six greatest American composers -- along with the likes of Stephen Foster, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington and Hank Williams. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over his being a bleedin' heart Democrat...

Same as me. As another poster finally enlightened you (thanks poster) you were taking exception to the use of the word ruler, when the author was using that in the sense of taking up the fight.

Anyone who knows Willie knows he must be drunk again. He's never been able to stay off the sauce for long. Could be one big reason he doesn't like Bush, who succeeded where he failed. Willie is obviously just looking for a way to stick it to him. .

Sadly, it isn't just sauce. Poor Willie. Saw him at Foote's General Store(?) here in Leon Springs near San Antonio not too long ago. He was just fried. So aged. Kind of catatonic. All he can remember is what happened forty years ago. Whee. Sex drugs rock 'n' roll. Mostly drugs.

I could swear that Willie Nelson has a zillion children that he doesn't see or support. If I am wrong I stand corrected.
If he is so worried about the children of the world, I would think a good place to start would be taking care of his own.

And don't forget the story of Willie getting arrested near Waco about ten years ago for some "herbs" he had in his possession. Willie Nelson is definately on more than just the sauce. He's had the reputation of being like Jerry Garcia, a dabbler in the funny little cigarettes. Goes to figure that the dope has gone to his head.

Willie Nelson is a has-been who has forgotten his base. I think we should email him and remind him who gave him the pedestal he is currently wobbling on. His email address is:
