OMG! That's the funniest thing I've read here in a looong time! :)

And I think the other 11 can be found from among the first OJ Simpson jury.

Amazing that some folks can not recognize sarcasm with out a label, thanks for offering proof positive.

Uh huh. Sure, if you say so, Mrs Mark. But you can you please explain just what was supposed to be your point? I mean, other than my "huh?" and seamole's response, nobody paid you any attention.

I still think the twin "Towers of Light" are cool.

What really drives me nuts is those stupid post-modernist names - I mean, honestly: "Reflect on Absence", "Passages of Light: the Memorial Cloud", "Garden of Lights"...there's one word to describe that kind of imagination: "laaaaaame". Or maybe just "self-importance-inflated"...

At least (I hope...) they're not going for that sorry excuse by the name of "Garden of Lights"...the pictures are too much along the lines of Night of the Living Dead. That thing looks way too much like a graveyard. The point should be that there's been great loss, but that there's a light at the end of the tunnel - there's always hope, no matter how bad things get.

Instead (by the looks of it) I'd come out of Garden feeling like, "Oh heck, might as well go slit my wrists!"

Also the ridiculous Giant Mattress In The Sky is nothing short of laughable. I mean, sorry, but...

I actually like the design for Reflect on Absence, although it's slightly dismal as well. They really need to dump the retarded "spare, minimalist concrete" look. They should replace it with pale blue glass walls, and steel floors. And they should throw in a tall bright beam of light (similar to the Towers of Light) from the centers of the pools, instead of the despairing holes.

I know no-one asked me to design it, but, honestly, if they'd just listen to me... And instead of "Reflect on Absence", it should be called something like "Dubya Strikes Back" or "Go to Hell you Islamist Barsteads"...well maybe... ;)

And after the attackers are ground into dust and fade into distant, vague memory, subjects of amusing vignettes on a future version of JayWalking, a clenched fist will no longer be a fitting memorial.

But it can stand as a warning to those who will, in time, forget or those who came too long after to remember what happened and what we did to those who wronged us.

We will always have enemies that need intimidation.

Will re-post in the proper spot it it's not a duplicate.
Mea culpa. :)

Sure! And you keep cracking unfunny, nonsensical jokes about 9/11. You must be *real* popular at parties...

Excellent post.

I visited the WTC back in 1998. The "site" was huge. TV doesn't do justice to how much land we're talking about at ground zero, or even how tall the towers were.

I hoped that they would decided to establish a traditional national cemetery/memorial on the site, administered by the US Park Service.

My rationale is that people were vaporized there, so the visitor's now and in the future would get a better sense of "sacred ground" in that place. This would be more appropriate than incorporating a New Age memorial into what amounts to a new and improved version of an active center for trade and commerce.

To put it another way, Gettysburg ain't a farm anymore either.

That would definitely be a fitting tribute...as well as much more fitting than bizarre visions of air mattresses, let alone eternally darkened graveyards. I'm still not sure I see the point of the Gardens and Mattress in the Sky (or whatever it's called).

I don't like the pools. I would have preferred to have a memorial that would engender soaring heavenly feelings. Quite literally the pools make me think of what is below my feet...something less than heavenly. (Excuse my judeo christian concepts of heaven and hell).

Whats 9/11?

It's not witty or funny to use sarcasm in anything relatated to September 11th. Bad form.
