"Anyone you know have an immgrant in their family for the last three hundred years?"

Yes. My mom is an immigrant and this country is better for her being here.

Did I miss any? ;-)

I think you missed the parts about Bush not being a True Conservative, and not being serious about the War on Terror if he's not willing to secure the southern border.

Other than that, I think you pretty well covered it.

The amuhrican public just needs a little edukatin', that's all .. It's OK, Washington says so. ;-)

Much detail I think needs to either be developed or divulged.

Why have borders anyway, at this rate?

The one that Tancredo supports is where Mexicans come in, work, but they can't bring family and they have to go back after a certain amount of time.

Somewhere in there it needs to say NO VOTING and NO CITIZENSHIP for children born in this country; no anchor babies anymore!

There they go again with that dispicable bit of con carne.

Actually, it has never been more true.

I saw some data a couple years ago that indicated that only 25-30 % of the U.S. population had U.S. roots that went back to the time of the Constitution.

I sometimes think it may be even less.

But, this is not the point of the Mexican problem though. Or perhaps it is with some.

It can't be 2005-2008 because the Congress will have 3 elections where they can't get above 35% of the Hispanic vote - 2000 - 2002 - and 2004.

They are not going to create any more Democratic voters, especially when the GOP is going to be fighting tooth and nail against Hitlery in 2008.

The Congress just isn't going to do it.

Mexico is seeking a measure of legality for the approximately 4 million undocumented Mexicans living in the United States and wants a legal way for others to work in the country in the future.

4 Million Mexicans commited a criminal offence and they want the US to forgive them?

Did I miss anything?

The only solution is to deport each and every single one of them and to seal the border.

Forget fingerprinting visitors at the airport. If Osama Bin Laden or any terrorist had any sense, they will just recruit a few Mexicans to walk across the border.

The Congress just isn't going to do it.

There are some old archived threads that have some voter data on this subject. I will try to find them.

I was amazed at some of it and some did not surprise me.

East coast residents seemed to be entirely democrat, but mid west and southern were pretty much split, with the newer immigrant more likely to be more conservative, (believe it or not) because they brought with them a higher standard of family values.

I need to find that stuff. I had it once and my drive crashed due to a bug. It was pretty interesting stuff. It was late 90s data.

How would you then stop a pickup truck plant in Texas from firing all their US workers and horing these workers for half price?

You wouldn't, that's exactly what every business desiring cheap labor would do.

And when an English speaking American quits they'll post that job opening with a requirement the applicant speak Spanish or some other language. It'll be a nice little way of getting around that pesky rule about seeking US citizens first. All they'll have to say is: we tried but no one qualified.

"It looks very much like a political effort and what they do with these `principles' is going to determine whether this is really a policy initiative or not," said Cecilia Munoz, vice president for policy at the National Council of La Raza. "The Latino community knows the difference between political posturing and a real policy debate."

Republicans are stupid by appeasing the illegal immigrant agenda in order to get elected.

The La Raza/MALDEF/MECHA crowd will vote democrat knowing they can get more appeasement from them; See above quote

Many more people, sick of illegal immigration, will vote against them. Many more that would vote Republican will stay home; remember Grey Davis and BustaMECHA

Illegals harm the economy by crime, welfare, and lowering of wages, which is bad politically; see California

A Terrorist attack, especially coming across the Mexican border, will also not look good for an election.

-These are just some the political reasons. Please send to every Republican leader. Even a RINO has to recognize these facts.

President Bush will propose immigration law changes to allow workers from Mexico to enter the United States if they have jobs waiting for them,

How about the Australian approach. You can come if you can prove that you have a job, and that you are not taking that job from an American.

officials said Monday in previewing an election-year measure intended to bolster support among Hispanic voters.

How Democratic of our compassionate-conservative President. I have figured out the meaning of compassionate-conservative is socialist-liberal-Republican.

He'll say the same thing he always has, "We need structure an immigration policy that matches willing workers with willing employer" and nothing will be done. Been that way for three years now

This is the same kind rationalization I heard during the CFR push. First after Bush said he would sign it I heard "Don't worry, it won't get trough congress." Then after it did, I heard "It'll be struck down in the courts, for sure."

Why can't Bush take a stand instead of BS strategery? What if something does get through congress, what will be your excuse then?

The one that Tancredo supports is where Mexicans come in, work, but they can't bring family and they have to go back after a certain amount of time.

Now I could go for something like this with certain caveats.

Employer must pay prevailing wage, employer must provide full medical insurance, termination of the employee must be reported immediately to ICE and the big one...time spent as a guest worker does NOT count as residency towards U.S. citizenship. If that is what they after, then they are not simply a guest worker and must apply for an immigration visa.

Guest workers? Yeah right. Presumably guest workers would be barred from being guest public assistance beneficiaries. I highly doubt that people who employ illegal workers are interested in paying a living wage.

My grandparents arrived in 1908, their oldest daughter having been born in Sweden.

I'm glad they let immigrants in during the last century, and I'm glad we let immigrants in now.

Immigration needs to be controlled, not ended.
