Zotting posts, locking threads, banning the vile - excellent work by the staff. Glad you know that "toleration of rottenness is no virtue."

Happy New Year to all of you on the staff at FR.

Thanks for your commitment. I have no GREAT resolution to make to FR. I read it twice an hour all day long (I should resolve to get a life, but my life affords me this pleasure). I thoroughly enjoy each and every post, whether I agree with it or not.

The only thing that I ask is that moderator not cancel so many post. I know that you have your reasons for not allowing thing to stay up here, but the reasons for this sight is so that we can change others minds, or have our minds changed by others. If I, or someone else, posts something idiotic, your members will saute the poster.

But, if that is your only fault you are doing a great job, keep it up.

As a matter of fact, right this moment, I thought of a great resolution for myself. THIS YEAR I resolve to donate money to the FREE REPUBLIC!

Your resolutions took the form of a wish list! Well, Happy New Year to you, too! My new year's resolution is to spend less time on Free Republic. But we all know that resolutions are meant to be broken!

I resolve to find work, contribute to FR again, and say something outrageous enough to get my post pulled

I have never had a post pulled 8^(

Could I be the 300th name on your Ping list? I don't want to be the only one around here that left out. 8^)

I'd like to see more respect for the U.S. Constitution and especially due process of law here in FReeperdom. I'd like to see fewer posts advocating shoot-from-the-hip casual violence around the fora.

There are people here who apparently think that because "our guy" is in power now, that it's OK to ignore the rules of society and advocate killing Americans that they don't like.

My pet peeve is FReepers who advocate shooting down private planes and airliners full of innocent passengers because they have strayed over some imaginary line in the sky.

Thankfully, you guys and gals are still removing those posts when you find them.

I know you can't be everwhere at all times. I expect FReepers to be self-policing. When somebody makes a personal attack or advocates violence, publicly call them on it.

Some examples that come to mind are, fewer personal attacks.

Speaking only for myself, here is my "ad hominen" attack policy.

When Attacked:
1. Act Presidential. Follow Honest Abe's policy: write out a stinging rebuke. Enjoy
the superior logic and pointed replies. Put "the letter" into the drawer for
awhile (Lincoln always put them in a desk drawer overnight).
Then imitate Lincoln's example of throwing the hot letters into the trash can: delete it.

2. Fully consider the possiblity (no matter how remote!) that the attacker is right!
Or maybe partly right.

3. If your memory is good enough...recollect that the attacker is someone that you
agreed with 200% on some other thread.

4. Consider that you may be the victim of a mis-addressed missive, or your
adversary is responding to part of your post that was not really clear.

5. Craft a response that's lucid, debates the actual issue at hand, and just
ignore the heat that came your way as much as possible. Be the first to extend
the olive branch. If repulsed, at least you did what you could.

To reduce odds of launching the attack (come on, you know we all do it...or at least
contemplate it at times)
1. Don't do it.
2. If you want to do it, go to another thread. Let your subconsious use the
hot energy to craft a REALLY good repsonse that is right on-point on the issues.
3. Be gentle as possible...if you're like me, you might contemplate flaming on
a "bad day". Try to short-circuit the human impulse to shout at other posters...
when you really are frustrated because you can't shout at the boss, spouse, kids, friends,
jerky neighbor.

Peace on Earth in 2004.
Except for good-natured "rough-and-tumble" at www.freerepublic.com!

Oh, death and confusion to OBL and all his fellow travelers!

I resolve to not get my priveleges suspended this year.
I also resolve, though, to give the admins and moderators reason to at least consider suspending my priveleges. :-)
