I am wondering why they get their money back on taxes. Must be a law of some kind.

Let 'em pay taxes on purchases like everybody else. Or maybe they're buying goods tax-free that nobody else wants to pay. These people just can't bring themselves to abide by our laws and play the game by the same rules we do. The only word they seem to un derstand is FREE!

"I am wondering why they get their money back on taxes. ",,

I know when I visit Canada and make purchases I can get a rebate on the taxes from the goods I've purchased. So the illegals are getting a free ride without taxes AND sending their income back to Mexico.. sweet deal for Vicente "sly as a" Fox..

How about if they send chits in FROM MExico and THEY show proof, rather than us doing it in good faith and paying the costs. A lot of this nonsense with legal/illegal/trade could be solved with a little bit of common sense. And I believe it would turn out better for ALL sides.

I just had the speech that Fox made in Madrid re Mexico in the 21st century.. very interesting. Seems Fox has in mind a mirror image of the EU for North America.

Americans also get tax breaks when they travel. I doubt most go to the trouble of requesting and filling out the forms every time they make a purchase but the system exists. I have taken advantage of it myself to save a lot of jack.

"Mexicans caught cashing in sales tax exemptions for products that are NOT EXPORTED and remain in the United States".

They're 'stealing' the local sales tax by claiming the products are going to mexico.
On a 500 buck TV they save the 40+ bucks in sales tax by claiming the TV is going to mexico.

I have taken advantage of it myself to save a lot of jack.>>>>>>>>

and don't you actually imports the goods to the USA ??

I'm not saying the people aren't breaking the law because they clearly are. I was just pointing out that these tax breaks exist everywhere and for everyone- not just Mexicans. It is a normal thing. These Mexicans, clearly, are abusing the system.

and don't you actually imports the goods to the USA ??

Well, usually, I import them to the UK.

But again, this wasn't the point I was trying to make. One point though:

They're 'stealing' the local sales tax by claiming the products are going to mexico

They're not stealing the tax if they're not paying it. The government is stealing it when they take it from you. What they're actually doing is to avoid being stolen from themselves- all tax dodges are exactly that. Still illegal, so don't get bent out of shape about it, but that's the truer picture. All blackmarketing is thus. The drug trade, black market smokes, bootleg whiskey and moonshine. Tax dodges. I get out of paying taxes in every way shape and form that I possibly can. I don't recognize the government's "right" to my money.

LOL.....agreed

Guess this pi$$es me off because many taxes collected *in Texas* are then "re-distributed" in many of our *poor southern counties*, along the mexico border.

Mexicans caught cashing in sales tax exemptions for products that are not exported and remain in the United States could face fines or jail time under a law that takes effect Thursday.

I can't believe there was no penalty before this. Dumbass Texicans. :)

The headline is misleading. This is not a tax perk for Mexico. It is for any foreign citizen buying something to take out of the country. The problem here is that people who live in the US, both legal and illegal, are claiming that the purchase is for taking out of the country then keeping it here. My preference for a solution would be to make the buyer fill out the paper work then immediately escort them across the border with their purchase. Adios amigo.
