Here's someting that really PO's me: When our embassy fell in Tehran in 1979, the French Embassy refused to give our fleeing Americans refuge. They locked the embassy gates, and would not let them in. Nice guys, those French, huh?

I did NOT know about that. Terrible. France has not been friends with the USA for a long, long time. And to think of all the US Soldiers that died on the shores of Normandy...and this is the thanks we get. A while back I was listening to to a Demo-RAT commentator that Fox News had on that said that France didn't owe us anything anymore because most the people from WWII era are dead now. Amazing...I have never heard such an awful viewpoint.

What a difference, the same magnitude earthquake as Paso Robles California which killed 2. Fox just reported 15,000 dead so far in Iran.

Also, the buildings in Iran aren't built to withstand earthquakes. And many of these buildings were "huts".

It's not really an earthquake in Iran. It's just disinformation my the U.S..

That's why the headline reads as it does.

The Paso Robles quake was R 6.5 while the Iranian quake was R 6.7. Although they look similar, the Richter scale is exponential 6.7 is almost twice as powerful as 6.5. Other factors may be proximity to the epicenter, surface geology and most importantly, the type of building construction.

this site recently ran a headline about a comment some Iranian mouthpiece made about 'washing Israel away.' My post referred to that comment. I certainly am in no position to speak about any particular Iranian, other than the one who made the comment.

Iranians are Persians, not Arabs
Iran is not part of the Middle East
Iranians speak Farsi, not Arabic
Iranians are Shi'ites, not Sunnis.

1979 was the overthrow of a brutal dictator to be replaced by a brutal theocracy. America should not have supported the Shah any more than we supported Saddam but it was the cold war and the rules were different.

Bottom-line is that the Iranians are chanting pro-USA slogans in the streets. We need to do more to help them and humanitarian aid for a ctastrophe like this earthquake is a great way to start.

My feeling exactly. This is a great opportunity for America to show her true strengths. I think Bush needs to do something. Let's send the Iranians a message that we are here if we are needed. I am willing to do what I can. If anyone knows how we can do this, please share.

Hmm...I thought government and citizen were two very different things in Iran. You know, even if it were N. Korea that just lost 20,000 people to an earthquake, it would still not be a time to celebrate. That's what makes us Americans...compassion.

The Mullahs are not popular. I don't recall them dancing on 9/11.....now, the Palestinians did.
