Thanks for the stats. I thought the figure seemed way low. Glad I have the unreliable and unregulated Internet (and fellow Freepers) available to correct the errors of the mainstream media.

Thanks for the data! The incidence of STDs is bound to increase as people increasingly engage in sex. During WWII my(civilian) Dad was seriously ill but could not get any antibiotics because every dram that came into Texas was going to the military camps around the state.

"There's a lot of unsafe sex going on in Vancouver and the disease has simply taken hold," Rekart said. "Our outbreak is primarily among sex trade workers now, but we're worried about it jumping to the gay community and beyond and creating a bigger epidemic," he said. As I read this, I was brought back to a time in 1963, I was sitting on my rack in the squadbay of Kilo 3 6 Camp LeJune, NC. A couple of racks down lived a boy from Boston, Mass. He was reading one of the Boston papers, can't seem to remember which, but it was of the tabloid style.
Well anyhow, he was reading a story about how the Italian mafia and the Irish mafia were killing each other off at a horrible rate, about one a day if memory serves me. Anyhow, he went on and read how the cops were frustrated at every turn in their attempts to stop the killings. And he said, to no one in particular, kind of like just speaking out loud, "So why don't they (the cops) just sit back and let them ( the two mafias) kill each other off?"

Somehow, someway, this has to be W's fault...

"Our outbreak is primarily among sex trade workers now, but we're worried about it jumping to the gay community and beyond and creating a bigger epidemic"This stimulated a memory from 30 years ago when I lived in the French Quarter. This "sex worker" liked to peddle her wares under the facade of my aparment building. One evening a hell of a commotion broke out between "her" and a John. Turns out "she" was a he and the John wasn't pleased.

Vancouver facing worst outbreak of syphilis in the developed world Has this got anything to do with the Mad Cow Disease? Just wondering. You know how some of those farm boys are.

Did you ask your friend how and why he knew this:
My friend later told me, laughing uncontrollably, that that booth was known as the place to sit if you wanted to find a cute young thing looking to turn a trick

I suppose it might explain some of Henry VIII's behavior later in life.It has been said that Henry VIII had syphilis but this has been discounted as a myth. It's thought that his behavior is explained by a developing diabetes and it's side effects.
I guess if I had nonhealing sores up and down my legs, I'd be cranky too.
Another rumor on Tudor medical history is that the lipstick Queen Elizabeth used dissolved her lips, the sugar she ate rotted her teeth and that's why there are no portraits of her in later life. Don't know if this one is true or not.

The Internet has also made it easy for people to meet and have anonymous sex with several partners, Blatherwick said. But the carpal tunnel injuries and sticky keyboards really puts a damper on things.

Bob & Doug McKenzie would like to take this opportunity to say that they have been completely unaffected by this situation.

I don't mean this disrespectfully, but doesn't Vancouver have a huge Asian population?

I don't mean this disrespectfully, but doesn't Vancouver have a huge Asian population? I was thinking the same thing. Yes, many many Chinese there.
