Under Food and Drug Administration regulations issued in 1997, it is illegal to feed protein made from cows, sheep, deer and other so-called ruminants to other ruminants. But it is still legal to feed the rendered protein to pigs, chickens and other animals. Those animals in turn can be rendered and fed to cows or sheep. Also, beef blood and beef fat can be fed to calves.

And messy it should get.

This isn't going to make the price of beef cheaper any time soon. Get your steaks while you can!

I looked at your previous posts; you've never posted on any thread on FR except these "panic" threads. Any reason for that?

I suspect Intersate Meats has facilities in Washington and Oregon. Here are pictures of Interstate Meats processing plant in Oregon which looks like a fairly good size operation for making hamburger.

You are right. The price of meat won't get any cheaper at the store, however, tommorrow morning when the Merc opens, it will be limit down for all cattle futures and probably will be that way friday and perhaps into next week. Japan and S. Korea have halted US imports now. Japan is our biggest foreign market. BAD, BAD deal! Many of our friends raise cattle. Hope they have the prices locked in. The boom in the cattle market is over for awhile I fear!

Thanks. I was hoping you weren't here to incite a riot or anything like that. :-)

Price of beef will fall -imo....as the price of beef was spiking I see beef cattle all over...on small five acre plots...everybody and his brother are raising angus around here..
I'd be butchering mine right now before the rush if I had some even close to being fat enough to market

I love this story. I first saw it this evening when I was having cocktails with my friends who had CNN on. CNN was going ballistic with the MAD COW DISEASE IN THE US....graphics. Since I've returned home, I see that Reuters is trying to talk the stock market down in it's stories......Mickey D's stock down....PANIC!!! This is a new low for the US so called "press".

Mickey D's stock down

I suspect that by the end of the day tomorrow, US beef will be banned in most of the world.

I blame the Democrats! The only way to bring down our president next november is for the economy to tank again! They snuck a cow in across the northern border and planted it here!! I smell a vast left-wing conspiracy! :>)

(I need to chuckle about this before I go to work tommorrow and all the farmers come in and complain about the commodity markets being down!)

Already been banned by Japan and S Korea. We supply over half of Japan's beef. Europe doesn't buy much if any from us.

Singapore just banned US meat, following similar actions by Japan and South Korea.

This will be laid at Bushes doorstep and it will stick. This is the problem with laissez-faire capitalism. The mother effers cheat. The steps to stop the spread of this disease have NOT been taken. Only half measures and it's this administration's fault. Wait till it comes out how much the beef industry donated to Bush.

Which is why, in turn, the cheaters support laissez-faire capitalism.

Gee, you surprise me, mercy. In fact, I remember some incredible creeds you posted right here on FR during the election 2000 debacle. You were encouraging everyone to get OUT and protest as I recall. Now I wonder about you.
