I knew there was a reason I liked him.

I'm proud to say I've hosted the "gentle giant" and his lovely wife in my home. ;}.

Bang
Reagan isn't the only actor with a deep understanding of society it seems.

I hope for the return of the native, pagan Greco-Roman gods every day.

True enough, but as I said earlier, only God knows the outcome of our acts.

The residuals from the LOTR series and speaking engagements will hopefully keep him well endowed long into the future. Certainly Rhys-Davies is a true "Hollywood intellect" in a world where that phrase is an oxymoron in most contexts.

I am sure they must have been interesting, but being professionals I doubt John Rhys-Davies made it a source of ill will between them simply because Ian McKellen happens to be gay and Viggo Mortensen happens to be a critic of U.S. foreign policy, and vice versa.

Economics has a lot to do with the decrease in population also. Combined with the decrease in rural populations, a lot of people in the high-tax countries just can't afford large families.

But is that not the essence of the human struggle: The desparate need to act meaningfully yet the certainty that we are denied the knowledge of the meaning of our actions?

Here is a priceless gem of a quote from that same interview that has not yet been posted:
Theres an exchange, a drinking scene between Gimli and Legolas, that will probably be on the DVD [of The Return of the King] that I think will make you laugh a lot. I suspect that in a way that the film would have been better with it in. This film is very dark and very
well, I teased Peter the other day [saying] You realize that the critics are now going to accuse you of having made a homo-erotic masterpiece. [More roaring laughter.] With all of the hobbits and the bed-jumping...its a little bit like Never-land, isnt it?
This man is a treasure!

Wow, what a great article! And Im really pleased to see one of my favorite actors isnt a Hollywood commie. Other movies Rhys-Davies was cool in are; "License to Kill" where he played Pushkin, a KGB agent and two of the Indiana Jones movies where he played Salah, an Egyptian archeologist..

I am thankful when someone takes a risk to refute the hatefulness that is spewed nowadays.
as a fellow student of Western Civilization and someone who wanted desperately to do archaeological digs in the Mediterranean because she loved everything that was Classical ie philosophy, culture, architecture, etc., I send my best wishes to Mr. Davies.
I don't have a problem with those in the ARtistic field speaking their minds. I just wish they wouldnt get the deer in the headlights look in their eyes when people actually try to engage them based on what they have said. Its as if the money they took from our hands was supposed to automatically shut us up, when I think it gives the audience the right to counter them.
People such as Mr. Davies and others who speak intelligently at least prove to us that they are willing to CONVERSE with their fans, not PREACH to them.
