I live next to Coatesville. A 60 million dollar recreational facility will fail there. It's insane. Coatesville used to be a nice place. Now it is where most law abiding people fear to tread. 60 million won't help.

Yes, salt the land so it is useless for 100 years. Why not? It WOULD have been their choice if gov't didn't come in and tell them "the Gubbmint knows best for you".

I'm surprised the city leaders didn't plan drugs somewhere on the property and seize it that way.
If they needed the property for a road that's one thing but a golf couse... #$@%*&!

I'll have to trust your word abner..I don't have a dog in this hunt (never seen the property, jsut found out about it tonight). But, CAN say, I see what usual PA local councils do in the communties. Spend LAVISH amounts, and it adds up to nothing. Hell, Murphy in Pittsburgh want(s/ed) to cut funding to fire/police/etc, yet let a multi-million dolar "frisbee park" go funded..
Frisbe park????? Shit, 5 months out of the year, it'll be un-usable.
My area, echoe's of "we may be short of salt and a plow or two." Community, "Ha..Try it, and try your luck in the private sector next cycle".

Gee why don't they outlaw single family homes and mandate condos? It will enlarge the tax base. (/s)

I'm surprised the city leaders didn't plan drugs somewhere on the property and seize it that way.My mother-in-law had an 1/8 acre eminant domained off her. Private development none the less.
Don't think for a second they don't do financials of those their getting readyto go up against.
My brother-in-law and I are going to CLEAR ALL the old growth trees for my burner. It's actually very dense tree wise. Be damned if a private developer is gonna get that good wood and put it out on the market..My burner is gonna be hungry next season..

too late, we have real estate agents buying up single family homes from suckers. They then turn around and make these MONOTONOUS mini townhome associations consisting of 4 to 8 units where there were once as few as two homes.
They rezone from single family to medium density. Never mind that it is destroying the single family home nature of a neighborhood. However, they say the tax base is growing for now. Wait untill they can't unload the condos.

There should be more restrictions on eminent domain than this.
I can see eminent domain for doing things such as putting in a new road or sewer line or something like that, but not for city "revitalization."
Wonder how many of the city fathers have their hand in the developer's pocket?

As the Supremes just killed the First Amendment, what the heck? Why not the fifth as well?

City officials have said the plan would allow the Sahas to retain the small corner of the property that contains their home, a 250-year-old farmhouse that they rebuilt.Well, that's very big of them. What do they propose the Sahas do with their horses?
There should be more restrictions on eminent domain than this.
Way more. There's a big difference between "public need", "public want", "city officials' whim", and "developer's financial interest". Now they're even grasping out of their jurisdiction.
This has got to stop.

THEY NEED TO GET IN TOUCH WITH WELDON, GRAB EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF EVIDENCE INCLUDING NOTES FROM MEETINGS, PUT TOGETHER A POINT BY POINT BRIEF, AND HAVE WELDON LEAD A DELEGATION DIRECTLY TO JOHN ASHCROFT and ask for an immediate investigation. THIS SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN FISH.
Stash copies of this stuff everywhere and go for a federal case based on Civil Rights, ie., denied due process under the law.
It sounds like a DNC takeover of a small town, or maybe even a Muslim enclave desirous of that land. Either way, there is way too much money involved here for a small town with only 11,000 people.

This is baliant abuse of eminent domain, at it's best! What are these folks recourse if they are refused to be heard by a higher court? Is the court system not set up to protect form abuses and improper laws??? As well as it's other functions?
Now how are they going to judge "fair market value" when there is no one else willingly to touch the proper except the township??? And they will condemn it and take it!

Isn't this part of why we had a revolution in the first place, because we didn't want a king running our lives?
This sounds pretty feudal to me.
