Soft money band to parties upheld, as well as the corporate/labor bans on money.
No idea what the ruling will be on the 60-day "ban on speech" before elections.

Oh, this is just great. The majority opinion was written by Stevens and O'Connor.

I just heard the report also. I may be wrong, but it sounded like most or all of the justices who supported the law were liberals (and yes, I do include O'connor in that group). This would lead me to believe that this does not bode well for conservatives.

I'll bet John Kerry had an insider's tip on this yesterday when he objected to the NRA getting a cable channel so it can be a news/media organization. He said that would enable them to "skirt" the finance reforms on the 60 day ban on free speech.
If nothing else, it shows us how to skirt the ban.
Declare yourself a newsletter/newspaper immediately.

Still pending, the opinion on whether the government should be allowed to summarily execute anyone who criticizes a Supreme Court decision.

Link! We need links!
It appears more likely with this ruling that we will have a Democrat Prtesident and a Democrat controlled Congress.
With all that's been going on, I think it may be time for conservatives and christians to build a fortress and dig up bunkers around their house. This does not appeear to bode well at all for conservatives and christians.

CNN has: The court also upheld restrictions on political ads in the weeks before an election. The television and radio ads often feature harsh attacks by one politician against another or by groups running commercials against candidates.
VERY BAD NEWS. Unfreaking believable.

SFGATE.COM:
The majority also barred the national political parties from raising this kind of money, and said their affiliates in the individual states may not serve as conduits for soft money. Without soft money, politicians and political parties may only take in donations that are already allowed in limited amounts, such as a private individual's small re-election donation to his or her local member of Congress. That means no more huge checks from wealthy donors, and no contributions from the treasuries of corporations or labor unions.

Absolutely horrible ruling. If political free speech is not protected, what is?

How can this be!!!! This is an outrage. The Supreme's really let Dubya down on this one. We all know that he was relying on them to undo his signature on the law. How could they do this to Dubya?
