This is a war for control of the Democrat party between the extreme left(read socialists) and the Clintons(read closet socialists). The Clintons have already made arrangements to withhold the big money from a candidate they do not endorse and now Gore is entering the fray to oppose the Clinton wing of the party. This should be interesting to watch.

Ask the liberals who are applauding Gore's backing of Dean how they feel now that Dean's campaign is backed by Big Oil and Big Business (considering that Gore's money comes from stock in Occidental Petroleum, and that he's on the Board at Apple).

It usually shuts them right up...especially the anti-capitalism ones.

Gore Claims Dean Tricked Him into Endorsement

(2003-12-09) -- Former presidential candidate Al Gore this afternoon said he was tricked into endorsing Howard Dean and had intended to back his former running mate, Senator Joseph Lieberman. Mr. Dean allegedly imitated Mr. Lieberman's voice in a late night phone call to Mr. Gore, and invited him to Harlem to announce his endorsement.

"By the time I realized that I wasn't endorsing Joe, I was already there at the podium with Howard," said Mr. Gore. "It was embarrassing, but there was nothing I could do about it. It was already out there."

Nader would have a field day with that, if he runs as a Green. Nader-McKinney, Nader-Kucinich, Nader Whatever, Ralph could add an element of much-needed comic relief to our ponderous election campaign in 2004.

Both Bush and Dean have staked their political careers on the war in Iraq. If it goes well, Bush wins. If it goes poorly, Dean wins. It's going to be THE issue of 2004.

I don't think Hillary has anything to gain by accepting the number two slot on a Dean ticket--any more than Teddy did when McGovern wanted him for his running mate in 1972. She can always cite her promise to serve out her term as senator. She has total name recognition now so being on the ticket doesn't make her better known, and she doesn't want any blame for a Dean defeat. If she thought Bush was beatable, she'd be running herself.
