(whew, i finally thought of something to type here)

Some of us figured out right away that anything with GPS installed allows the government to track you. This is almost a no-brainer. Don't want to be tracked? Don't buy anything with GPS installed and turn off your cell phone when you're not expecting any calls.

On-Star is installed in many car models made in this country, but you have to pay for the service.

I didn't think I'd have to deal with GPS on a cell phone because I never planned to buy one. There is no "GPS" on cell phones, but it's easy to triangulate the location of the user based on the signals being sent to the nearby towers.

If what you say is true, so long as the On-Star program is actively engaged, your location can be triangulated just like a cell phone turned on can do. It's still an invasion of privacy if that is the case.
