My thoughts--I can go and buy a very fine new outfit for a tiny percentage of (inflation-adjusted) income, compared to many years ago. I recently purchased a dazzling, enormous, space-age TV for less than I bought a microwave, in real dollars, in the late seventies.

I've come to the conclusion that we can afford the luxuries, but can no longer afford the necessities.

How does it profit us to be able to buy incredible luxuries at the price of making so many Americans poor? Will we be exquisitely entertained and well-dressed, and unable to afford surgery at our local hospital?

I have often said, on this board, that I'd vote for any candidate who would enforce our generous immigration laws. Even if that candidate were a Democrat. Even if that candidate were a Frenchman! I veer increasingly toward populism, departing from libertarianism a little more each day. Tax/tariff these goods. The corporations are the only ones to profit from outsourcing, and these corporations enjoy all the advantages of the US government in protecting their outsourced profits. Local communities must cost-shift social services onto taxpayers so that lawbreakers can enjoy illegal labor...

I'm going to vote for whoever is working for the protection of American Manufacturing. I don't care if it's Hillary! It's a matter of survival for most in this part of the country.
