Europe will still hate you, George.
Say, harpseal -- surprising isn't it how the economy grew at an 8+% annualized rate with steel tariffs. How can this possibly be?!?

I don't care what the eurinals think, I'm just happy that Bush will have to try to buy union support with his own money instead of mine.

The WTO is becoming a joke. No, the WTO is gaining legitimacy and authoritive power over national sovereignty.
It is our invertebrate POTUS who is the joke.

Sounds like that $850k bribe from the steel manufacturers wasn't enough. Nice to see that George took the money though.

and what exactly do you think is going to be cheaper now? where was the evidence that prices of items made in the US with steel went higher?
To: Pikamax
This kind of back-and-forth nonsense is the exact reason why the President wasn't given legislative powers by the Constitution. By what possible warped logic did he ever have the power to impose or withdraw any kind of tariff?

Who has the power to impose tariffs? Who enacted it?

ABC radio news reporting this will hurt the president in battleground states.
Ah, the wishing and hoping continues.

Looks like W blinked this time - too many electoral votes at stake. But, this was a no-win for the admin. no matter what they did once the rest of the world ganged up on us.
Every one of the complaining countries "dumps" steel here, but they've decided having a manufacturing base is good for their economies.
Perhaps now steel can get some of the special type of tax breaks oil, gas, and coal have been getting for decades.
To: OldFriend
it will hurt in Ohio and PA, that's the truth. where will it help? nowhere. as other posters have said, the economy grew at 8% with steel tariffs in place.
To: lelio
According to the first sentence of the article, Bush did. Somehow.

Why don't we just have the US gov't subsidize our steel industry to the same extent the eurinals do? It has the same net effect on US consumers....and has been "approved by the WTO"...

Too easy, makes too much sense, and steel doesn't have the same kind of friends as oil.
