What real threat is Egypt facing? Is it from the south and west?

Tungsten, not Depleted Uranium. They get second best.
I assume that Egypt will have to get leftover depleted uranium from Iran's enrichment process.Either that or enriched uranium from Israel.....

In terms of its country, I'd say South from Sudan, due to Rebel group operations (fighting in Sudan) in the area.

Of course not. The reality is that they are arming for a future war with Israel. In addition, one should not rule out they will be selling this stuff to other Arab countries with those same intentions.

I wonder if this is another of Dubya's diplomacy moves: approves the sale to look
like an "honest broker" to Egyptian authorities...while knowing that there will
be enough protests from other corridors of US guvmint that the thing will never be
implemented.
I hope there will be some "devil in the details".
