Not where we are in Jersey. The jughandles cannot handle the queue of cars trying to make the left hand turn. When that happens, they back up across the line of traffic crossing the main road and cause a massive jam-up.
They work only for a certain level of traffic. Once past that, they are useless.
The trend in New Jersey is to add a left turn lane in both directions, letting the turners queue up parallell to the direction of traffic, give them their own timed left turn arrow, and let the turners turn unopposed. Actually works much better that way, but usually requires the intersection to be widened to accommodate the turn lanes that are added.

You could go blind at night looking for the signs to the turnpike or the Garden State. They're the size of pie plates. What brain trust came up with that?

I read your paper as well as other Gannett yellow rags. Sarcasm is appreciated by a class of people and journalists above a sixth grade reading level. May I suggest writing a simple diatribe to the editor using small words, short sentences, and colorful charts with stick figures walking up the grade ala USA TODAY.

I guess I don't get out often enough or at the times traffic is sufficient enough to cause jug handle back-up. We selected our current abode as it does not have railroad track, draw bridge or jug handle 'twixt there and our place of employment. Not everyone is that fortunate. Our exits are 105/109, so meandering during high traffic times (race track/fort & NJ Transit/commuter/beach traffic) becomes a time-consuming effort. New Jersey is a busy place.

It sure is busy. Down here in Ocean County, you have to get out of the way in the summer on weekends for the beach and tourist traffic. I don't mind though--it helps our economy.
And we get the beach back in Sept. when the water is finally warmed up.
