Half the forum seems to have broken out in haiku hives and poetry pustules lately. Who knows. Holiday spirit, maybe.
I am pleased with the tradition that young men must complete military service after obtaining an education. Wish we had it here.

First let me express my disdain for Peter Popham, who titled his article with the quote of a distressed and obviously ignorant member of my nation. Peter you suck. Well stated. What struck me was that the headline could be answered by saying: What does it matter that the innocent victims were muslims? Any terrorist act on any innocent is the nadir of human behavior. Would it have been less heinous if the victims had been Bhuddists?

Few Brits know that when we were on opposing sides of the front we wouldn't pick them off if they were hanging up their laundry. In fact it was a Brit who told me that.
The attitude all over against Turkey is a remnant of all the wars we fought over the centuries against one another. And even though Turks and Americans never shot at each other (which makes that sack incident in northern Iraq sooo shocking), America is populated by and large by people from those countries we fought.
Anyway, so I understand the undercurrent, but mercy, we've been allies for over fifty years!
