I was in one of my graduate classes the other day, and two of my fellow grad students-the most strident and vocal lefties in class-were lamenting that that they had problems with students who were "resisting" their efforts at "challenging" their notions ("challenging" being such tactics as screening Bowling for Columbine in one class). I said nothing, didn't even half-chuckle. I just thought to myself that the Left is finally facing true diversity and pluralism for the first time, and doesn't like what it sees or hears.

He added his experience as an RA has shown him the "left-leaning" discrimination by residence life. He said he was unhappy about having to promote National Coming Out Day through fliers and Stall Stories, but could not publicize the conservative rally through the same means."I have learned that 'living and learning' requires learning of all liberal views," he said.
So, so, true!

Those liberal professors who shut down free speech now were singing a different tune in the 60s and 70s.From the Unabomber Manifesto:
216. Some leftists may seem to oppose technology, but they will oppose it only so long as they are outsiders and the technological system is controlled by non-leftists. If leftism ever becomes dominant in society, so that the technological system becomes a tool in the hands of leftists, they will enthusiastically use it and promote its growth. In doing this they will be repeating a pattern that leftism has shown again and again in the past. When the Bolsheviks in Russia were outsiders, they vigorously opposed censorship and the secret police, they advocated self-determination for ethnic minorities, and so forth; but as soon as they came into power themselves, they imposed a tighter censorship and created a more ruthless secret police than any that had existed under the tsars, and they oppressed ethnic minorities at least as much as the tsars had done. In the United States, a couple of decades ago when leftists were a minority in our universities, leftist professors were vigorous proponents of academic freedom, but today, in those of universities where leftists have become dominant, they have shown themselves ready to take away from everyone else's academic freedom. (This is "political correctness.") The same will happen with leftists and technology: They will use it to oppress everyone else if they ever get it under their own control.

Sean Clark (senior-political science) focused on discrimination in the classroom. He talked about his English 15 (Rhetoric and Composition) class freshman year, and the fact that his teacher introduced herself to the class by saying, "Just so you know, I hate Republicans."RATS discriminate? Just ask the good judges who are up for nomination to a higher court...

Even though I posted that saying, I also believe you should never be without a brain, regardless of how old/young you are.

Today they are moaning how the states NEED to have the internet taxed. It's absolutely amazing. There are so many countries taxing people at 50% and above, you would think they would move there. (I have heard many African countries, amazingly enough, tax at a high rate!)
These places must be a people's utopia. Why don't they go live there, and vote the taxes up there? Then they wouldn't be going against the flow - it's socialist, they love to tax you, and Christianity is a dirty word over in Europe. And they love to look down on us and call Bush a cowboy, just like the democrats. DU heaven!!!
I'm amazed we can even hold them back!!

"finally facing true diversity .."
Ever notice that the staffing of "Diversity posts," typically a VP slot is the least diverse population ever encountered? Caucasians need not apply.

The problem as I see it is that Conservative are afraid of being labeled as racists, mean, etc. Now think about it, the people who will label Conservatives in this manner are liberals and their fellow travelers. So who cares what these people think? I know that I don't care what the crazies on the Left think about me. Conservatives are right and that's all there is to it!
Conservatives need to use the same tactics that the Left uses. You don't see the Left hiding its collective head in shame when they are 'labeled'. At this point the Left just turns up the rhetoric and become even more, 'in your face'. We have to fight fire with fire! I know that sounds trite, however it also happens to be true.

A photo from the rally on Thursday that appeared on the front page of Friday's Collegian below the article that Willie posted:

John Litz (sophomore-liberal arts), ... said. "I support their right to free speech, but at the same time, I don't think they should be putting down other groups to get their views across." Such typical backassward liberalness. He hears the truth of how conservatives are being "put down", then whines that conservatives dare complain about it. All the while couching it in support our right to free speech, of course.
Hey John, you want fries with that liberal arts degree?

I was in attendance at this rally Thursday at noon and the Penn State College Republicans and the Young Americans for Freedom combined to put on a first class presentation.
The crowd was larger than I expected. Lots of female conservative students there, including several who appeared to be of India-Indian ethnic origin. I was also surprised when a colleague of mine from Romania showed up wearing a College Republican sticker on his jacket. He has completed all his requirements for American citizen citizenship, and is just waiting to be sworn in.
In the past I have worked with a number of people who grew up in Communist dictatorships (Hungary 1954 vintage, Cuba since Castro, and Czechoslovakia 1968), and in my experience they have been some of the most loyal and best Americans I have known. My Romanian colleague is well along that path of those immigrants who have helped make America the great country it is.
One very impressive speaker at the "coming out" was an 18 year old freshman who has only been here since classes started on Sept 2. She said she thought she had left childish name calling back in high school.
Unfortunately, since starting at PSU she has been called a racist for disagreeing with affirmative action, a homophobe for agreeing with traditional marriage, and a host of other degrading and intolerant names for not buying the prevailing liberal orthodoxy of the PSU administration today.
Listening to a feisty young student like that speak and defend her values in front of over 100 supporters, plus perhaps half as many liberal opponents (who were uncharacteristically well behaved), gave me a lot of optimism about our current student population.
I hope the CR's and the YAF hold an affirmative action bake sale in the spring. That would be a hoot!

----IRONY ALERT--- ---IRONY ALERT----
the group was told to show up at the rally as individuals and not to protest.
When the Borg says to be individuals, they become individuals.

I don't see what everyone is so upset about. Colleges are very inclusive, fostering every ideology from socialism to communism and all points in between.
What's the problem?

Previous thread at
Event fliers raise concerns [Coming out Day at Penn State]
Sara Ryan, Allies co-president, said the group has not yet formed an official opinion about the rally and will meet with Battaglia today to discuss the group's motives. "I don't know how concerned we need to be yet," she said.
Sara must have felt like an idiot following the rally, given that the conservative students in attendance couldn't have been more civil, more polite, and far more tolerant than some of the hate-filled nasty losers Sara allies herself with on a daily basis.
Unless she was spooked by that poster in the picture on the front page of Friday's Collegian ( http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2003/11/11-21-03tdc/11-21-03dnews-13b.jpg ).
But then there was another poster reading: Handguns are a girls best Friend, and my favorite I'll accept your perversion if you accept my disgust.

The worst campus libs are professors and many of those do quite well financially, pay a lot of taxes and still go on preaching leftism. I was a government and politics major in college. I can't begin to tell you how many teachers I had who not only were lefty, but near violent about there hatred to the right.
There is one memory that always stuck out to me. One of my teachers was spitting out some drivel, I cited a statistic and study that disproves it. My teacher, trying to be cocky and mock me, asked me what evidence I had of this "study" or "stats". Thank the good lord, I actually happened to have had that study on paper in my notebook, I picked it up and said right here.
She accused me of showing her up with my "facts".
