Well, if you are like me and you just don't like giving it out willy-nilly, you can always use a fake one. I think my school has a fake one, the movie rental people, etc. I just throw random numbers back a them when they ask.

It's "safer" to sell services than goods, since the business-license Nazis have a habit of showing up when you're visibly marketing physical objects, and that puts you back into the numbering game. But if you "do your thing" discreetly, and don't call official attention to your finances, you'll usually be left to work and earn in peace. OK, I think I will just take her advice and do my thing. ;-)

This give me a fun idea. Since our wonderful government has been so friendly to illegal aliens lately, maybe I'll put my SSN up for sale on E-bay. I've been contemplating 'going underground' for a long time now.
