Call me greedy :) But when I backup a hard drive over the network (say, 40 gigs), it takes quite a while. I know, 100Mbps service to a residence would be great, but its not like it would be earthshattering.

I would have though they would build at least a 1GB backbone.

Only 1GB ? Try 100 Gb minimum unless you want to watch your WAN Ethernet slow to a crawl when it hits the main switching networks at the ISP ...
