[Europeans'] national memories are all of royalty/subjects, and they still see themselves as subjects .... America has a totally different national consciousness.
Excellent point. It feels very much like truth. Do you know if anybody from psycho-bubble professionals did any surveys on this? I am going to use this line of argument anyway (thank you). It passes my un-scientific smell test.
I don't know whether any studies have been done, but I doubt it. The social scientists tend to be Lefties, and they are unlikely to detect such bourgeois (sp?) tendencies in their soul mates 'across the pond!' Hopefully (and likely) the New Europeans had that class thing burned out of them by their decades under brutal socialism.
I'm very close to these issues, my wife grew up in Morocco, and can tell you first hand that the "Muslims always treated Jews (and Christians) right until Israel came along" is the bleat of the historically uniformed.
America has a totally different national consciousness. The only way we can be defeated is if we choose to be defeated.
Tolik has a good nose. Very interesting comment. Having relatives in France and two daughters who lived there for awhile (and been there myself 7 times), I always find the Europeans passivity before the government kind of shocking ---and scary.
