Cunningham is the biggest bore in the world. He would be great at night because he would put you right to sleep. I think KSEV needs somebody fresh. Patrick, Richards and Matthews have been icons in Houston radio but radio has changed a lot and I think there needs to be a different personality to spice things up.
To: Eaker
Do you have a professional opinion on this?? Not really, other than what I wrote in Post 34. We obviously need more facts, but we may not get them. If there is something to this, he might try to plea bargain to avoid what would be a humiliating trial, even if he were eventually acquitted.
I have to think he's done as a talk show host in Houston, regardless.

I lived in Houston from 1992 to 2000 and listened to Jon Matthews every day. This saddens me beyond belief.

Rush is on a competing station (owned by Clear Channel, Rush's syndicate). Dan Patrick used to be manager at that station (and even is the one responsible for bringing Rush to Houston's airwaves back when the show was first syndicated).
While Dan knows Rush, he doesn't foresee any scenario by which Rush will return to "his" station.
I agree about Laura vs. Bill O'Reilly, but I hate Alan Colmes' show even more (and don't care for Bruce Williams' advice show either).
Michael Medved is syndicated now, so I hear, maybe Dan should look into his show. Dan did briefly bring back G. Gordon Liddy to Houston's radio (Dan was also the one who dropped his show in 1994 after flack over OKC, a move which he now regrets).
One of the problems with KSEV is that evening broadcasts are at a reduced power so that a "clear channel" (not Clear Channel) station can broadcast without knocking out their signal (old broadcast laws and licenses). This limits what sort of programming KSEV will pay to offer after sundown.
The Alan Colmes show has something to do with Dan linking his radio station to Fox News. USA News provides the hourly updates but by some deal that Dan has with Fox (because of some of the programming he buys) he can cut to live breaking news from Fox News (he wanted this ability when President Bush was about to send troops to Iraq, not just for war coverage but any possible news about terrorist attacks, etc.).

Even if he takes a plea he will do time. Fort Bend County is not a liberal hotbed and if he is found guilty they will sentence him to the max.

I don't care who they put on KSEV as long as they don't follow KPRC 950's trend of whiney, edgey, loudmouths. Someone from the area (who knows local politics) is also better than bringing someone in from another market to be a local host.

Sorry I missed your question before now... KPRC reported it specifically - in those words.

No, I wasn't in Houston during the Moby years, although I've heard Jon refer to that show on occasion. My assessment of Jon Matthews is that he is awfully self-absorbed, loved being called "King John", and never displayed any religious or spiritual leanings that I could detect.
On the other hand, he was clearly conservative, and certainly projected a law-and-order personality. While he overplayed his past ties to the military, he was very strong on national defense, etc.
His one passion seemed to be golf. Not long ago, he was off the air for what I think was heart surgery, although I never heard definitively. He ranked extremely low on my list of possible "dirty old man" suspects.

Sorry I missed your question before now... KPRC reported it specifically - in those words.Well damn, just damn!! I don't like Jon but sure don't wish this on him. Last year a Republican Precinct chairman in that area was arrested for the exposing himself, though no children were involved. You think it's something in the water over there?
BTW The last mayor of Sugar Land has a civil suit pending against Jon that's due for trial very soon.

Many years ago some lady wrote in to "Dear Abby" complaining about her husband, who had the habit of peeing in the bushes in the garden.
Subsequequently Charlton Heston wrote in with a strong defense of male urination practices. He said "all men pee outdoors." He described hwo he'd walk his dog early in the morning morning. The hound would pick one tree to mark and Heston would pick another.

"On November 11, 2003, the Fort Bend County grand jury returned an indictment against Jon Matthews for third degree felony offense indecency with a child by exposure," explained Ft. Bend County District Attorney John Healy.
Healy went on to say the indictment alleges exposure, but not contact with the child. If convicted, Matthews could face two to ten years prison time and a fine not to exceed $10,000 with the possibility of probating both fine and imprisonment.

I remember the heart surgery.... It was bypass surgery, as I recall. He was a smoker as well. I remember I asked him once if he'd managed to quit smoking and he said (after the surgery) he was trying but it was hard.
I'm wondering if he was outside smoking when he decided to relieve himself in the yard. Most smokers go outside now. Of course it's alleged that he did more than urinate, but I just can't conceive of him doing something so stupid. It's going to take me some time to grasp this.

Did they take his computer out of his home yet? I have seen many a male golfer take a leak behind a tree or bush on the golf course. I believe Bill Clinton upset the Brits last year when he took a leak on a golf course in the UK. I-95 has many a leaker standing beside the vehicle whizzing into the grass. It is not an unknown thing. This guy would probably have yelled he was whizzing right away and not allowed it to get this far. He appears to be in deep doo doo

My husband used to do that too. He needed hip replacement and it hurt him to walk. He'd sit outside to smoke and just relieve himself out back. Thank goodness we live in the woods! I'm glad to see he's in good company with Charlton Heston. But he'll kill me if he finds out I told on him!

On a large piece of your own property I could understand. Not on a public street.
I guess different folks are different.
Personally, all the pointing and laughing would bother me.

I could do it in my backyard too, but I would make sure that it was a private moment as I am sure your husband did.
