Met the man in a bar in Pleasantville, New York. Very tall, good listener, and gracious as they come. He was a regular there back in the mid 80's. He made the place come alive with his interest in others and not his interest in himself.

So many great ones have died this year. Bless Art for depicting one of the truly memorable fictional characters in TV history. I feel I should lay a wreath at the Sanitation Department.

Bad year for classic tv fans. :(
I had always hoped to get a chance to meet him. I shamelessly stole his "shooting the cuffs" -- that thing he (as Norton) did with his hands that drove Ralph berserk -- and made it part of my shtick. :)
Thanks, Mr. Carney, for more laughs than could ever be counted. I am certain you will continue to brighten my life and those of my future kids forever!

No better legacy than to know you made so many people smile. You brought so many people joy.
Bless you, Art Carney!
And Thanks for the memories.

Why is it that we're stuck with the hyper-political no-blip on the brain scan types and the good ones leave often?

FreeRepublic is funny. Major terrorist attack receives passing notice, but death of old comedian is in bold-faced majuscules. Not criticism, merely observation of irony.

WHAT a shame. One of the all-time greats, he was a part of what I consider the greatest comedy series of all time. May he rest in peace, and condolences to his family.

I loved the body language he used as Ed Norton. A great physical comedian. He certainly brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. May he rest in peace.

The current crop of 'stars' are nothing more than trash that will never be considered legends.

I, Ed Norton, in the Captain Video Space Academy do solemnly pledge to obey my mommy and daddy, be kind to dumb animals and old ladies in and out of space, not to tease my little brothers and sisters, and to brush my teeth twice a day and drink milk after every meal. My favorite "Ed Norton" scene. What a fantastic talent he was.

Here in NYC, they have a life-sized statue of Jackie Gleason in his Ralph Kramden regalia in front of the Port Authority. I asked my local councilman if there was any chance of having one of Art Carney/Ed Norton put up in front of the Sanitation Department. Didn't get much of a response, I guess it's an idea whose time hasn't come.
