Cathryn, Can you please describe the "multi-tool" to us? A few have been quick to assume that it was a Leatherman or something similar, but I can't imagine someone using a Leatherman to fix a pair of glasses. It would have to be an awfully large pair of clown glasses or one hell of a magic trick.

This is an example of the idiocy that public schools have decended into. Home school sounds like the solution for this.

Put him in private school. He may actually get an education vs. an indoctrination.

Tell her this:

Education Welfare Distribution Centers (aka. Public Schools) can enact whatever idiotic rules they want. If you don't like what goes on in your child's welfare school then remove said child and either homeschool or pay for the child's education at a private school. I suppose the people sleeping in the homeless shelters don't like the cockroaches sometimes but they don't have much of a choice. You do. You can pay for your child's education or you can gratefully accept whatever handouts are available.

I'm going to give you contrary advice. You need to present a unified front to your son or you risk some major behavior problems in the future. Even though you disagree with the school's stand you need to work this out with them without his knowledge. If he see's that he can get you to fight against the school he can use this to his advantage in the future to manipulate you. Don't go there, its not worth it.

He broke a rule, he needs to learn to accept the consequences even if its a stupid rule. That is life and you shouldn't protect him from it. If you do otherwise you are planting the seeds in his mind to disrespect authority. That is dangerous for you and not a good role model.

Its okay if you work behind the scenes but avoid at all costs the impression that you and the school are divided and that he isn't responsible for abiding by the law

Sorry Freepers. Flame away, but I'm right.
