This land grab by the Coatesville City Council borders on beyond belief.
Thank goodness voters stepped in.

A win for the good guys.
I'm so glad. I can't imagine some politician telling me I have to leave my home simply because he wants it for something else. " I order you to get out."

I live adjacent to a town that has a big redevelopment battle going on now. The main focus of this plan is to seize through coerced sale or eminent domain, over 100 private homes, businesses etc. to make way for a developer's planned office/shopping/residential complex.
It is very sad to see people (both Democrats and Republicans) eagerly jumping on board the plan to steal their neighbors property.
What ever happened to America ?

Where in the world did they get the sack to try and grab land that isn't even within the city limits?
Were they insane, incredibly stupid or both?
To: XRdsRev
The same thing was trying to be done in a city just west of Cleveland, thankfully voters defeated the measure by a very slim 39 votes.
The 12 people who had refused to sell are safe for now.
What the hell ever happened to capitalism and offering someone so much money that they were inclined to accept the deal?
These poor folks were going to be getting a whopping 128% (or about $140,000) of the appraised value of their homes while the developer stood to make millions.

What ever happened to America ?Politicians discovered absolute power.

He said City Council would now consider whether to challenge the measures in court. When will this idiots realize that it is ... We The People and not We The Courts???

When will this idiots realize that it is ... We The People and not We The Courts??? When the courts stop giving these cases the time of day.
When the lawyers get some morals.
When We the People start tossing judges in elections, either directly (some judges are voted in) or indirectly (toss the politicians who appoint the judges).

How can the city plan to put a golf course on farmland outside the municipal limits? It doesn't make sense.
BTW, where is Coatesville?

How can the city plan to put a golf course on farmland outside the municipal limits? It doesn't make sense. BTW, where is Coatesville? Insane, isn't it? However, Coatesville, being a "third class city," has the power of eminent domain of property that BOUNDS it (even though it's outside city limits) as long as the purpose is "recreation." That's why all the references to the project are as "recreation center."
Coatesville is in Chester County, about 30-40 miles west of Philadelphia, on the way to Lancaster.

Our latest trend is having inside real estate agents buying up single family homes and then getting zonign variences to townhomes.
Where once was two homes there are now six townhomes.
They are trying to built non family neighborhoods. (ie "couples" of a non reproducing nature)
To: Bikers4Bush
The problem is "replacement value" They may get 128% but it may cost 250% to find the equivalent home.
The problem is the devoloper wants the extra 100% for themselves.
To: longtermmemmory
Probably more than 250%. Some of the homes in question have an amazing view of a metropark.
The developer was trying to steal prime real estate in order to buld high end condo's and an upscale shopping mall.
The whole thing made me sick.
To: longtermmemmory
And trust me, for every $140,000 that would have been paid for the homes they would have been getting nearly half a million for the condos.
Two condos per lot.
You can do the rest of the math.
Total BS.

THis reminds me of the story a couple of years ago about the guy who built his own golf course on his property. I think it was in N.C. Anyway, he planted many shrubs as part of the landscaping and the city (who were ticked off by the copetition directed towards their city course) fined hims a boatload of money. I think they even had him arrested and he served jail time for refusing to adhere to their stupid zoning rules and lower the shrub height. I think they may have passed their zoning limits after the fact (how stupid is that?) I never heard what happened to him and his case. Anybody know? And the bigger question is, what is government doing in the commercial business anyway?
Here in Ohio, Issue 1 was defeated yesterday. Our RINO govner Taft strongly supported the issue which would have allowed the state to "borrow" 500,000 clams to "create" 30,000 high tech jobs. Again, why does the state think they have the responsibility to create jobs? Repeal the recent sales tax increase - ala Secretary of State Ken Blackwell - and that will create more jobs.
