Greenpeace could lose its tax-exempt status - a potential death knell for a large public interest organization. A conviction could also force Greenpeace to regularly report its actions to the government.

Cool. Whatever works.
Personally, I enjoy seeing Republicans finally fighting fire with fire against these scumbags.

Greenpeace was engaged in a classic protest used by countless organizations

No they didn't. They illegally tresspassed on somebody else's boat. These pirates are lucky they weren't shot.

Go Ashcroft!
Whatever it takes to get flush the Greenpeace turds away, I'm for it. Hey Bobby Kennedy would go after someone for spitting on the sidewalk, if he thought it would help.

Ashcroft is the man!

When the vultures in the press use the same language for Reno, Clinton, and FACE, I'll start to pay attention. Until then lefties learn to take what you dish out.

Can you imagine the outrage if Bush banned peaceful protest on public property like Clinton did?

Greenpeace is lucky to not be facing piracy charges...

peaceful demonstration for nuclear disarmament. As part of the protest, the three nuns cut through a chain-link fence around a Minuteman III missile silo.

Peaceful Protest, huh? Dominican Nuns or not, They deliberately cut a chain link fence, got noticed and will spend or did spend a few years in prison. I don't see what's wrong w/ that. Some people have simply earned the right to lose their freedom. I'll bet they won't be doing that again anytime soon. LOL I'll take John Ashcroft over the Murderous Janet 'WACO' Reno anytime.

Charging Greenpeace with "sailor-mongering" does not make him dangerous in my eyes.

However this does:

And opponents of the Patriot Act who said the anti-terror measure would undermine Americans’ privacies may have a point. This week in Las Vegas, federal authorities used the Patriot Act to nail a Las Vegas strip club. Federal authorities said Monday that they used the Patriot Act to get financial information in its probe of a strip club owner, Michael Geraldi (ph). But the Patriot Act was supposedly set up to root out terror threats on American soil after 9/11. Using the Patriot Act to go after strippers is a very bad sign. This is not about busting strippers, folks. It’s about nailing Al Qaeda. You talk about sliding down the slippery slope and endangering American civil liberties. This is bad news.

Fifteen months after the incident, the Justice Department filed an indictment in Miami against the entire Greenpeace organization under the 1872 law, a law that appears to have been used only twice.

The law of unintended consequences.

Which is a big reason the Patriot Act sucks.

Hardly. Greenpeace should lose any tax exempt status it has since it is clearly a partisian left wing bunch of yahoos.

The sooner all these anti-American groups are destroyed the better and I have no sympathy for these religious groups which think they can attack national defense installations either.

Anyone the Left hates, such as Ashcroft, is aok in my book.

Green-pricks are a health hazard and result in the deaths of many people due to the irrational fear they promote over modern technologies, not to mention the many jobs lost among Alaskan Eskimos and others.
