It could only cost Gov't $413 million to clear a few dead trees out of the bush.

If they were so worried back then, how come they weren't out making noise about it?

In no case blame the idiot who lit the match!
To: chance33_98
Because they weren't worried. Its just pure politics plain and simple.
Have you heard the new Rush parody with Dashcle and Kennedy about the war? That speaks to this situation big time!

Grey Davis put a request in to Washington for $413M to clear a row of Beatle infested, dead trees six months ago. Why would that be a federal issue?
(Just have the environmentalists who care so much go in and fix it. Isn't that what environmental donations are for?)

I doubt that any additional funding would have resulted in the removal of enough dead trees to have made any difference in these fires.
To: Misterioso
I want Greyout to prove his acinine remark - - come on Davis, when did you make the request? Release the paperwork!!

Cause it really wasn't money for tree removal, it was money to build "transgendered" restroom facilitys at all California State Park facilities and do a study on the lifecycle and habitats of the Kalifornia Pink-crested Buttpicker or some such critter.
But its for trees now.

A row of trees? What was it, 200 miles long? And when was tree harvesting a federal issue? It wasn't on federal land, was it?

The environmental organizations get miillions in donations each year. Shouldn't that money be used for.....say.....environmental clean up?
If they litigate control over the land, shouldn't they at least take care of it?
Where does all the donation money go, anyway?

In no case blame the idiot who lit the match! Why not? 1) Dims never miss an opportunity to trash W, and 2) It might have been started by someone who would vote Dim.

Why could California not take care of itself? What is all this stuff about it is up to the Federal government to take care of us? ( rhetorical question, I guess, for dims)

Grey Davis put a request in to Washington for $413M to clear a row of Beatle infested, dead trees six months ago. Who do they think they are kidding. This fire has jumped interstate highways. $413m is just a drop in the bucket relative to what it would have cost to prevent this. Forestry service should have been doing controlled burns for the past several year.

Boy, I'm sure glad there's no left-wing bias over at CBS. < /sarcasm >

Forestry service should have been doing controlled burns for the past several year. They couldn't. Environmentalists had them in court using up all their funding on legal fees.

NPR had the same story. It must be in the DNC daily fax.
