The attachment was called a krumlauf (there might be some umlauts in there...). It had a mirror sighting system; There was little or no training to use the device so it was not very popular.
Germans also devloped and deployed the first IR sight, the Vampir (vampire). Again, lack of training in its use made it ineffective.

What they need are remote controlled guns. Place guns around perimeter and have a computer geek with video screens. If the dummies think they are smart, geeks with the latest nivdia video cards will take them out.
They should invent vehicle check points with camera mounted robots that geeks can search vehicle with.

During WWII the German Wehrmacht had a curved metal tube that would fit over their portable machine guns and fire around corners... of course it didn't include an optical site and slowed down the bullet quite a bit!I can imagine that the device wasn't used too often. Sounds like a good way to expedite a "KaBoom".

I NEED one. Or two. Or a half dozen.
If I can't buy one, I'll make one.
I have an old friend that has a 94 Winchester in .32 WIN SPECIAL that he says can shoot around corners, but I've never seen him sober enough to take shooting.

Good idea, seriesly. The Iraqis don't want people or dogs searching them, let's use robots and take the soldiers out of one dangerous position. I'll get right on it.
No, dang it!! Let's withdraw and nuke the place.

Observations:
It's a Glock pistol. So the firepower is as limited as any pistol.
The recoil would be a bear to control, since it is lateral to the shooter, and would pivot out of position on each shot.
For US citizens, it would be considered a "Short Barrelled Rifle", since its pistol barrel is much less than the 16" requirement. It would require fingerprints, a background check, $200 tax, and wait for the gals at ATF to process the papers.
It looks like it has a suppressor attached.
The caption incorrectly describes the camera as being on top of the pistol. It appears to be below the slide/barrel.
To: meyer

They didn't tend to go kaboom, but the bullet was pretty trashed when it exited. The recoil tended to pivot the barrel out of position in a nasty manner, so full-auto was out of the question. The curved attachment was smooth bore, if I recall.
To: meyer
The recoil should be odd lol!
