It took me a few to remember how OBL took credit for USS Cole, but if I recall correctly now he had released a video either shortly before or shortly afterward where he's featuring a Yemeni knife and a map of Yemen in the background. He praised the 'daring' of the attack (or however he worded it) and rambled on about how the perps were now in heaven and how the US should expect more of the same, or something along those lines.

A freeper first posted about these fires a few days ago when the fires started. It was some title about fire all over California. Many other freepers flamed him. My very first thought was that a crazed arsonist was on the loose. My thought now is that it could be a Davis supporter. Think about all the guy has to gain by this. And look at what a mess it leaves Arnold. Please note that I am not saying Davis himself is behind this. But we all know how wacked his supporters can be.

I saw that slogan last night. I think they're hoping that we'll just say: "Okay, sounds good to me," and pull the lever for the Dems.

"I don't think ELF would destroy so many trees."

The you haven't been paying attention lately!

All of the major forest fires over the last 3 years were deliberately started, and all but one of them was by an environmentalist.

Thank you. I missed that. I don't think that this is a flamable notion.

I made a remark about Clinton being impeached once (before he was)

It took a nucular flaming!

Yes, that sounds right. I remember for quite a long time after that attack, there was no 'credit' being taken, and there were several pundits who said this was evidence it was Al Qaeda, because they often didn't take credit for attacks, but rather would not (or, sometimes, much later would make an oblique mention, as they eventually did with Cole).

But the spikes don't kill the trees. Even in that example, their main target is people, not Nature.

They don't care about nature. The original Sierra Club did, and sponsered projects to enable people to enjoy nature.

The Sierra Club of today was taken over by the communist junta that now runs it for the express purpose of destroying the capitalist forrest industries.

Those roads, trails and campgrounds championed by the Sierra Club of old are now closed. The Sierra Club of today has nothing at all to do with nature or your enjoyment of nature. It exists solely for the destruction of capitalism. I say this as a past member of the Sierra Club.

What they want is really very simple. They want you living and working in a cube in the city under their close supervision and control.

IMHO, these fires were set by either terrorists or people who want to see Arnold fail and California implode.

Yes. I'm referring to "Sore Losermen" types.

The FBI alerted law enforcement agencies last month that an al-Qaeda terrorist now in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States.

The contents of the June 25 memo from the FBI's Denver office were reported Friday by The Arizona Republic. Davis declined to share a copy of the memo and an FBI spokeswoman in Denver didn't immediately return a telephone call.

This has also been in the FBI's custody since February 2003. They told the finder, the brother of US Representative Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) that the contents were innocuous. The diary (this photograph is two pages of a full diary) was found in an abandoned backpack on a well-used smuggler's trail on the U.S. Mexico border and contained telephone numbers in Canada and Afghanistan.

Yes, the one started by the lost hunter is the largest, correct?

Decided lack of interest in the start to that fire on FR.

Incorrect societal group and all.

(I've hunted in the past, don't do so now basically because I blow all my money on fishing, I don't have a problem with hunters, just dumb ones getting lost and starting fires in horrible fire conditions.)

If true, and if terrorist related, this should be viewed as a diversion.

With a currently estimated cost in the billions of dollars, that'd be a pretty effective "diversion".

You need not wonder whether terrorists have crossed the border...only whether they've begun to take action. See #114.

If you're talking the 500,000 acre Rodeo-Chedeski fire complex in Arizona...

One was started by an out-of-work firefighter and the other was started by a 'lost' bimbette office-worker. She lit a bush as a signal fire. A news helicopter spotted her and the signal fire, and in landing managed to fan the burning bush into a major blaze.

On the Sunday live thread, I read where police were seeking a Chevy Astro van involved with the setting of a fire that started yesterday afternoon--I don't remember the location, somewhere near Interstate 15? Did anything more ever come out about that?

I could understand terrorists doing this. What I can't understand are the yahoos that think it's "cool" to wander out in the middle of a forty-mph Santa Ana and flick their Bic into tinder-dry brush. I can't wrap my head around such incredible, mind-blowing stupidity. I mean, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and live three thousand miles from SoCal, and even *I* know not to do that!
