You know Billie, there's just something about an injured wolf...

I know.....so helpless, and you just wanna make him all better and don't know how. I made this graphic for him the first day, and that was 2 weeks ago...had no idea it was going to be so serious and take so long to heal. Isn't that the sweetest little face? :)

"Argh...struggling to keep my perspective..."

Hang in there jwfiv :-) Yep, all the Dems do is whine, was disgusted with them after watching the debate last night. Ah, I am always disgusted with them!

My cousin and his family live in San Diego. Just received an update and thought I would share it with you:

"The fire is mostly inland and we are on the coast. However, we are ordered to stay inside due to heavy smoke soot and ashes. Car is covered with ashes and soot. The schools were closed today and we didn' t go to work."

My Prayers are with all.

I just want to cuddle that little cutie! You should have seen the Shepherd that came and checked out the "suspicious book" that turned up after the Communists had left. I thought of Wolfie when I saw him - luminous eyes, shaggy long black coat and just the biggest sweetheart you have ever met!

I have been trying to sort out the emotions of Saturday - I saw the enemy and realized they are like the Hun, at our doorstep in the quise of neighbors, friends, loved ones, etc. I was alarmed...

Greetings all.

I promised to keep you updated on my daughter, Holly. She has just graduated Air Force Basic Military Training, So here goes.

My son and I spent 4 days in TX for her BMT graduation. A curious series of events made the whole trip possible.

We made it to the Parade Ground early and without incident. The ceremony was really something to see and hear. I had seen Holly's HS marching band and was very impressed, but Holy Cow! The Air Force band was jaw-dropping good. Holly's flight(the "Wolf Pack" how appropriate for a MN kid!) had the honor of carrying the Flags of the US. All the States, Territories, etc.. She ended up carrying the Wisconsin flag. I have a great photo of her carrying it. Believe me, she was raised a Vikings fan and the photo of her carrying the state flag of the hated Packers will earn her lifelong ribbing.

My first question to her was "Any regrets?". "None. I love it.". That was pretty much the answer I got from every airman I asked.

We toured the barracks and that is when I first started to hear from families and TIs what a great airman my kid was. I must admit the one thing I was dying to hear was if she got her Marksmanship ribbon. 40 rounds. Need to get 35 on target. She was 32 out of 35 when her M-16 jammed. She was pretty peaved, and still is, about that.

Her orders, as of today, are to report to the DLI and begin her language training. She was lamenting how she was just beginning to feel at home and comfortable now has to ship-out. I reminded her that she will be living in Monterey CA for quite some time. She's psyched!

I have to say, my whole experience left me with a huge smile! I have no doubt the best US ambassadors to the world are our military.

I could go on for ever, but I hate typing.

Thank you, God! I am truly a blessed man.

p.s. photos as soon as I get them scanned.

Oh, Amy, I cannot tell you the deep feelings this particular expression stirs in me . . The Flag Is Passing By, indeed.

Being a child of WWII and later in the Marine Corps and having the honor of carrying the American Flag in the dedication of the Iwo Jima Monument on the Parade Deck at Parris Island marked me for life.
Even seeing it on television snaps me around on 'full alert' - and a color guard in my vicinity is riveted with my full attention and respect.

Spruce, I'm so thrilled your daughter is doing well in her pursuit of this different kind of life. She will gain strength and confidence and character, and be well prepared for the years ahead.

Thank you so much for sharing these experiences of hers and yours with us here! We love our military extended family members!

The quality of kids I met as touring their Training Camp was a site to see! What a great bunch of kids! The best seats in the house, at all times, was reserved and filled by squadron members. The old-timers were treated like royalty. Tear-jerking.
