Let the workers pay for it.

Vera is about as useful as Sheila Jackson Lee. They both need a serious zotting.
The sad thing is the list of candidates lining up to replace her, as far as I have followed Portland politics lately. I no longer live in Oregon. Are there any candidates for mayor that look even halfway decent?

Vera Katz is a hate-America leftist. She should be locked up in Gitmo, not setrving as mayor of a city.

Portland's Communist Party Mayor Vera Katz smiles in this transgender day parade photo... Oh, c'mon, tell us what you really think of her!
Seriously, not being able to tell the difference between a Democrat - even a very liberal Democrat - and a communist is why so many people have trouble telling Freepers from idiots.

"Presidential visits always require additional security, especially since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. But Portland's attempts to bill campaigns for police overtime is new, **prompted in part by the increased costs to the city from the escalating protests** in Portland when Bush visits."
Here's an idea, bill the protesters.

Say what you want but I don't see any problem with this at all.
The cities are in tough shape(and deservedly so in many cases) but why should the taxpayers pick up the bill for all the extra security?
These visits areen't something they can plan for in the budget, they are usually given last minute notice about the visit for security reasons.

I'm with you, I think ALL Presidential campaigns should pay for extra security required by a visit. And I mean, with a deposit in advance. That should stop any in-your-face visits by Dennis Kucinich to cattle country!

You should check out the CPUSA webpage sometime if you think rats are not reds.

Yes, I'm sure when Slick Willy visited Portland or other Dem-controlled cities, the Dem mayor asked the prez for police reimbursement...NOT!!! These Dems may not be communists, but they are definitely stinking hypocrites.

How funny that she never asked Hillary for overtime when Hillary showed up for her "non-job related" book tour.
Katz is a putz and embarrassment to Portland and Oregon.

I live in the Portland area, Vera's closer to a Communist than a Democrat.

DAMN!!! . . . That communist slut needs a face lift pronto!
To: nwrep
Write them a check contingent upon their success in collecting from every democrat politician requiring security service from last election to the date of the bill.
It'll never be cashed.
(Then make all federal funding contingent upon the same criteria and do all campaigning by US Postal service.)

Police from many local agencies helped with security as more than 3,000 protesters marched outside the North Portland campus. There's the reason for most of it.
I wonder if it was ANSWER. Don't they always pass around a red bucket for donations? Let them pay.
