Terri Schiavo Begins Receiving Fluids and Hospital Care - (Current Status Alert!)

First, I will assure you that I have been a nurse for over 13 years, ten of which I spent working with patients who had end stage disease processes and now in an ICU.

Any time we intervene with our medical technology we are preventing the course of events, and frequently natural death. I firmly believe that God has been instrumental in the discovery of that technology, but that he expects us to use it wisely and at times that means withdrawing our assistance and leaving it totally in His hands. God does not need a feeding tube (or our help in any fashion) to keep Terri alive, He can provide a miracle. I would agree with CDHarth that we should pray for Terri. I am not afraid of Terri being "alive", my heart goes out to her.

A man with a debilitating disease for 15 years who has become a world renown musician is obviously able to communicate in some fashion. If Terri was able to communicate, there would be no debate and we could simply abide by her wishes.

To say that God has moved the government to intervene and have the feedings reinstated is like saying that God approves of abortion because it is legal. I am sure many of you will be surprised to find that I am as anti-abortion as they come. Withholding our medical technology from a once capable adult, and not caring for a child are not even comparable. God's natural plan calls for adults to care for children. You can look as far back as Adam and Eve and see this. It was not until medical interventions came into play that choices such as this one came to be.

Yes, I am a mother of three adult children. It is unfortunate that most young people do not discuss there wishes with others. Our family, including children, parents, grandparents, etc. is very open and we have these discussions from time to time and therefore I know my family members wishes on these issues. After 18 years the first words out of any of my children's mouths would more than likely be "why?", why did you not leave me in God's hands? Like all parents I want my children to live and hope I am never placed in a position to have to make these types of decisions, but my prayer would be I will be strong enough to let go, and let God.

Withholding medical technology and allowing natural death is not murder. I am not advocating overdosing Terri on Morphie or any other type of lethal injection, I am only proposing letting go and letting God. As nmh wrote, her grandmother was 100 years old, they declined the feeding tube and she is up walking around and enjoying her family.

If God wants to provide a miracle, as the case in New Mexico, He will.

I respect your authority in the medical field. I, however am not in the medical field and it doesn't take one to see that Terri isn't a vegetable. She responds and commuincates. No matter how little, it is evedent that she is alert as she can be.

This whole process to me is an attempt for the husband to be "rid" of her just incase a "Miracle" does happen and she will spill the beans on what really happened to her!

If nature were to take the course and she was supposed to die, it wouldn't be because a feeding tube was removed, it would be because God set the date, not a judge.
