I hope this man is released. His courage is truly exemplemary, but courage is a virtue that seems to be unpopular with European governments. The hostility that leftists have for simply defending oneself is beyond all reason.

Investigators are trying to determine whether he inflicted the injuries while defending himself inside the apartment, or hunted down the burglars after they had fled. That's absolutely no different from what would happen in any American jurisdiction, even in Texas.

Other than not killing all four "burglars," (???), this man has nothing to feel bad about. I hope he is released as well.

In the US this man would be a hero and given an award.
In europe they throw him in jail.
Thank God for the USA.

The demise of these once, great civilizations is well underway when self-defense becomes an"excessive use of force"!!

Investigators are trying to determine whether he inflicted the injuries while defending himself inside the apartment, or hunted down the burglars after they had fled.Well there IS a difference between defending oneself from immediate attack and hunting down the perps when they're fleeing. I don't have much sympathy for the bad guys, but there has to be a point when self-defense no longer applies and the offenders are reported to authorities for pursuit and capture.

You said it. They won't let you arm your self and now they won't let you defend yourself while under attack with other methods!

In the US this man would be a hero and given an award. That depends on what part of the USA you are in. There are some municipalities where DA's have the same mentality as junior high school principals who will punish someone for defending themself just as bad as the attacker:"...because fighting is wrong and two wrongs don't make a right."

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
(though im not sure they have 12 jurors over there)

...but there has to be a point when self-defense no longer applies and the offenders are reported to authorities for pursuit and capture. For me that would be only when I could no longer locate them.

and the offenders are reported to authorities for pursuit and capture. Too bad the offenders didn't need some sort of permission from the "authorities" before committing their offense.
Why should a victim have to turn it over to the "authorities"?

BTW, it's generally considered taboo to change the title of an article so that it is sifnificantly different than what is used at the original source.
The Moderator is able to correct that.

Why should a victim have to turn it over to the "authorities"?Why do you ask that?
Are you some kind of anti-authoritarian vigilante anarchist?

Don't lump all Europe togather. Russian Duma passed law two years ago: say do unto criminal as you wish. What happens to scum is their fault for starting crime.

Cops everyday shoot, maim, or kill fleeing suspects for much less as compared to this heinous crime. So I await you to condemn the police in like manner.
