...we are talking about a Silicon Valley behemoth boycotting a website.

Actually, no. We're talking about thousands of companies who don't want their brands associated with certain content.

If the advertisers wanted their ads to run on sites with anti-Semitic content you can be sure Google wouldn't hesitate.

In this case Google's just doing what its customers, the advertisers, want.

Pretty lame censorship since ZeroHedge has been available to anyone who wants to go there.

What exactly were they prevented from saying?

*************

The “problem” is in the comments section which can be blunt and/or vulgar. But snowflakes who find comments “hurtful” don’t have to read them.

I’m sure if such comments were directed at Trump Google would have no problems with them. They don’t like to see strong opinions that are counter to their own views.

And in my view companies who don't want to advertise amid them have that right.

That's all that's happening here - it's hardly censorship.

Plenty of liberal sites have nasty and vulgar comments, some even promoting violence and hatred. But those sites echo Google’s own biases so they don’t get censored in any way.

I don’t know why you can’t see that obvious hypocrisy.

They just said “Our advertisers don’t want their ads running in a cesspool. You’re free to operate a cesspool, just don’t expect to use our platform to make money off of it.”

**************

No, what they are saying is they don’t want their adds running in a cesspool they don’t approve of. Liberal cesspools are OK with them.

You're missing the point. It isn't Google, it's their advertisers.

It may well be the case that the left is better at pressuring companies to be politically correct so they allow their ads to run on liberal sites, but that's not Google's call.

Google makes a good bogeyman but they're just being responsive to their customer - like any successful business.

The mistake is attributing their behavior to ideology when economics explains it much better.

Google is removing direct links to conservative site. Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, Our free Republic and Lifezette among the ones that direct inks have beenr emoved. You get news about the istes or hit pieces and the such as links. I just bookmark sites and use the direct links but also use Duck Duck Go and Disconnect Search, two private search engines.
