The problem is the first amendment.
That needs to be fixed. As is currently written Islamists are using to their advantage to slowly take over the country.

IMHO, the latter. So the First Amendment does not apply.
The first amendment doesn’t define what is a religion.
A billion and a half people say it’s a religion. Even the Pope says it’s a religion, as well as probably the majority of Americans.
Unless the first amendment is changed to define what is meant by “religion”, the Islamists are going to be laughing at us while they take over, courtesy of our most fundamental law.
