The Democrat Party has from 55 to 60 million loyal voters. To be anything but a feel good exercise, a Conservative Party would have to attract at least that number. Unfortunately, there are not over 15 to 20 million conservatives of voting age and, given our nature, if we did have a separate party we would immediately began fighting about who was a real conservative and who was CINO.
The Democrat Party is the opponent and unless and until conservative, moderate, and liberal republicans accept that we have more in common with one another than with the democrats, the democrats will continue to win regardless of how many opposition parties we divide into. It is fun to discuss political issues on a narrowly defined web forum such as this, but to win a national election you must have a broad based and cohesive organization capable of competing with the real opposition. We don’t have that now thus we continue to lose.
Oh please stop it. This 3rd party fantasy crap is such a waste of time. It’s just not going to happen. Each cycle we end up with some goofball like Virgil Goode running a vanity campaign which will never achieve anything except maybe being a spoiler - if they are lucky. Even Ron Paul figured out that 3rd party’s don’t work in this country. The primaries are for trying to push the right of center party in the direction you want - that is your chance to really fight for candidates you truly believe in. General elections are almost always going to be a choice between the only 2 candidates that can win in a 2 party system.
Now is the time to look at the exit polls, analyze what happened and get serious about what we can do about winning over the demographics we need to be a serious national party in the future. Flailing around with dopey 3rd party fantasies won’t get us anywhere.
In 2016 we are going to have the same silliness we had this time around. Conservatives that don’t get their candidate of choice nominated will stomp around and threaten to stay home. There will be a whole bunch of whining about the “establishment” as usual. Then the desire to finally win will overwhelm everything else and most of us will rally around our candidate and try to take the White House back. There will be a few dead-enders who refuse to do anything productive to help win, but then that is always the case and those people achieve absolutely nothing.
The GOP is failed.
Karl Rove and his like have killed conservatism within its ranks rendering themselves useless.
The GOP is dead, they just don't know it yet and will continue moving left trying to regain significance.
Kill it with fire.
Conservatism is our last best hope while the GOP is serving up liberalism in toxic doses.
Screw em. They did this to us. They are fired.
"We have met the enemy and he is us."
Yes. Tea Party or Constitution Party. Maybe even cal it the Founder’s Party. THIS is the time to do it. We can make several changes in the 2014 mid-term elections, like we did bin 2010. Then we can run a real conservative in 2016. Sarah Palin comes to mind. I’m sick to death of the republican party. Stolen elections aside, and it is possible that THIS one WAS stolen, but when you have such duds running the party, who have no cojones at all, it is time to quite the screaming at them and walk away. I am not a libertarian. I am pro-life. They are NOT. I am pro-family. They could care less about whether we have protection of marriage or not. There are SOME values worth fighting for. Libertarians have a narrow view of liberty. I used to be with them, but had to leave them. They are deeply conflicted in my opinion. But, a serious party for conservatives of all stripes? YES!
Yes, it is time for the Tea Party to become a REAL party. I am afraid that due to the fundamental changes in our country now, we may never see another Republican President in our lifetime. The Democratic Party has a grid-lock on blacks, hispanics, your typical liberal-minded elitest, and those who get food stamps and government checks. That is 50% of the country right there. By now, I am sure the Republican Party is starting to wonder how they can retool the party to reach some of these factions. So, what will they do?? Move to the center/left and accept abortion, gay-rights, more government? Any changes in just ONE of these things will cause many conservatives and evangelicals to bolt the party, and then where will the Republican Party be then?
It is time, past time, for true conservatives to unite. What do we have to lose? The GOP is losing now, and will continue I predict. Just MHO.
I think the big issue with the perception of the tea party, republicans, rinos, gope, and neocons is the zealot aura. Everyone seems to have their own particular crusade that they’re persuing and it doesn’t always fit with the average citizen. The left/progressive/socialist/communist/anarchist sect of society is the same, but they come bearing gifts. People are going to look out for themselves. They’re going to look for freebies or the expansion or real or perceived rights. The movement that I hope for and will strive for wants to limit government first and foremost. It is in the people’s self interest to persue limited government. The founders put their personal crusades aside long enough to give us a republic on a leash. Unleash that thing even for a just cause will cause unintended consequences and we will lose liberty. We should be pushing for a liberty party.
Recently this site’s users have been acting negatively towards libertarians. I think anyone on the limited government boat should be welcomed. We may need to build a tiered party with core principals at the fed level and let it be known that other issues are up to the states. We can fight amongst ourselves at the state level but were losing a lot of voters to our own individual crusades. We need to try to provide incentives to act morally instead of mandating it, but only at a state level. I want morons to flock to blue states. I want conservative people to flock to my state. But if the fed can’t control itself, than all states are purple. Neither fitting for a moron lib or a citizen.
I thought that was the original idea.
My bad.
They caved pretty quickly.
We need champions, who will stand up for America.
Right now.
We need to take over the GOP. Right now.
We need to take action. Romney lost. Badly.
The heck with all of them. America first!
“It’s time to form a “Tea Party” to supplant the “me too, me too!”
Agreed But, in deference to Trent Lott, After three years of watching valiant souls trying to herd cats, I’m a bit pessimistic.....especially after last night
Yes, my FRiend... I have been feeling that since 2010. I may have mentioned it in 1 or 2 posts, but I know there are many ‘squishies’ here that would have thrown a volcano at me for even mentioning it.
Hopefully, it is much more obvious to the deniers now.
Been thinking about your post. We need other “things” more than a new party. Establishing such a party would burn time and resources. It might make us feel like we were getting into action, but we could be using our time better in other places.
1. We need honest media, or at least honest competition for the current corrupt media. When we sit down with our morning newspaper, it should tell the truth. Donald Trump could do us a service by brokering groups of buyers for existing print media. (Doug Manchester is doing this in San Diego. He is buying newspapers.)
2. Candidates should identify early and have time to get grassroots and financial backers. Romney did this; Rick Perry did not. Romney was running for president for years BEFORE the primaries. He had a campaign team. He had donor backing. Some of the other candidates fell out quickly because they did not have this support.
3. Character matters. Romney is pristine in his personal life. Gingrich . . not so much. I love Newt, and sent him some money, but he would have had a hill to climb to get over the multiple wife thing. Character matters - at least on the conservative side. Not so much with liberals (Scoundral of note; Democrat Menendez from NJ got reelected even as he was involved in a hooker scandal).
4. Instead of organizing a new party, we could be spending our energy identifying talented candidates and putting together grassroots support. If we don’t identify them . . . THE GOP WILL.
There is much that would need to be done but the first and most foremost thing that would need to be done IMHO and that is to dump those that insist on staying in the Republican Party and work from within that all but dead party. Those that advocate that have no ones best interest at heart but t heir very own narrow liberal interests.
I for one want no part of the disgraced Republican party hence forth. They are a lost cause. Enough is enough. The Dems have beaten them at their own game. I'm so disgusted with the RINO's and their ilk. The Republican Party has been sliding down into the state they find themselves in ever since Reagan. Tea Party is our future now.
Your "Tea Party" loves subsidies. Your "Tea Party" loves social programs. Your "Tea Party" loves luxury, and it doesn't care how many 3rd-world children it takes to supply it. Your "Tea Party" doesn't want to make sacrifices, and it never will.
Yes, and it needs to be sharply focused on economics, budget and spending. Aiken types will just screw it up. Then it needs to focus on getting about 40 or 50 seats. The number can vary, but it must be sufficient to prevent dems OR repubs from ever having 218 seats.
Then the GOP will be forced to deal with them as a block. Make it where they cannot pass a dogcatcher bill without coming to the TEA coalition. Then we ALWAYS have a demand ready in return for playing ball. If they balk, join the dems for a few votes as a disciplined caucus.
The presidency can come much later.
How will this party be competitive any be anything different than the Constitution party, Perot party, Buchanan reform, Bull Moose, or other third parties that failed, fail now, and will fail in the future.
q good way to lose really big
[make font really BIG] YES! [/make font really BIG]
So when and where is the first meeting? Err...convention? Haven’t been officially involved and honestly the thought of making this official is daunting.
Getting so fed up with the RINOs there now I’m going to go UN-register.
