I would have to give up on the republican party
Well, since it would pretty much guarantee Comrade Zero’s reelection, I’d figure liberty would be gone and I’d be preparing for the brownshirts to take me to reeducation camp (and I’m only half kidding).
Don’t think of it as giving anything up. Think of it as a reason to vote good people into the house and senate and force Romney to be a good president.
The white house is the anvil and congress is the hammer.
A true conservative should never consider and should never actually vote for someone to the Left as Romney’s record shows he is.
The country - to 4 more years of Obama.
I am done with the GOP if Mitt is the nominee, they belong on the ash heap of history, may a new Party rise from its’ ashes.
Good question, and I know a lot of us have also been thinking
along these lines.
I don’t know how easy it is to predict that there are any “issues” that would be “sacrificed”, because Romney, by all accounts, will pay lip service to any and all issues he thinks will get him nominated, which means continuing to do well enough in all primaries to keep him in contention.
Early on, he said, with that urgent, nervous smile and that breathless delivery he has, that he was “A Tea Party Person”
because, like them, he “believed in smaller government”. That was supposed to be enough to snare the Tea Party vote without going through the process of the Tea Party promoting HIM (he was supposedly promoting THEM).
The worst thing about Romney (including all the things we know he’s already DONE, like RomneyCare) is that he creates no confidence in us that he even UNDERSTANDS the big picture
of the mess both Dems and RINOS have left us with, how and why it happened, and what kinds of things we have to address NOW to get us out of it.
He spouts nothing but the usual election cycle cliches about jobs, the economy, and making America great again, stuff I have heard my entire lifetime from EVERY challenger to an incumbent, Dem or Repub. He is so Establishment, and so totally lacking in visceral excitement, that it makes my teeth hurt just hearing and looking at him.
Like it or not, the ONLY one who keeps coming back strong, and ON TOP, showing enormous nerve and backbone, not to mention a dizzying and effortless command of issues , is
NEWT. I like him more every day,and look forward to saying more about him as time goes on.
Newt, for all his faults, is ,at least in this field of contenders, shaping up as both a mensch and a COLOSSUS.
The first presidential election I’ve sat out since I was of voting age.
If “we” (who’s “we”, Kemosabe?) have to “settle” for Romney the Socialist, I will vote for whatever nonentity the Constitution Party pukes up.
we would give up spelling and grammar.
climate change
Conservatism.
The fact that we settled on another DBM-selected candidate like Romney. And, IMO, if Romney gets the nomination, I think we will have a wishy-washy flip-flopper who will bow to the whims of the Democrats - and that's NOT what we want.
My soul, it ain’t going to happen.
My soul is not for sale.
My soul is not for sale. I will never vote for Mitt Romney. Period.
Other than that, the biggest thing people will have to give up if Romney gets the nod is the idea that the GOP actually wants to beat the Democrats.
1. The 1st Amendment right to free association (vs. Romney ban on health care choice)
2. The 2nd Amendment right to keep & bear militia arms (vs. Romney ban on standard defensive weapons)
3. The 4th Amendment right to information privacy (vs. Romney commandeering of health records)
...for starters.
That we would lose the election because every issue we win on, he loses for us. Obamacare, he gives us Romneycare. Class warfare vs he rapes businesses. Muslim vs Mormom (both religions outside the mainstream and considered extremist). Birth Certificate vs father born in Mexico.
