I don’t think a Romney endorsement does anything for GOP candidates in red states. He should stick to blue state endorsements.

A spokeswoman for Bentley, Rebekah Mason, said Friday that Bentley wanted to concentrate on the race for governor and did not want to give the impression that he was endorsing anyone in the 2012 presidential race.

Actually, this is a smart move on Bentley's part, particularly if the governor's race is close. He doesn't close the door to supporting Mitt as a possible VP nominee. As the leading candidate of the Dewey/Bush/New England Patrician wing of the party, it is not wise to p*ss on Mitt, but it is wise to keep him at arm's length.

Who would have him on their ticket?

The Birmingham News reported that Bentley turned down the endorsement. A spokeswoman for Bentley, Rebekah Mason, said Friday that Bentley wanted to concentrate on the race for governor and did not want to give the impression that he was endorsing anyone in the 2012 presidential race. (BS, Romney’s a RINO and this guy wants nothing to do with it -ed.)

Why do the Bentley people insist on insulting everyone with this lie? Bentley is a Huckabee supporter.

Romney spent millions on 2008 and got how many votes? What does it take for a buffoon of this magnitude to get the message that he is yesterday's news? If he couldn't get to first base against Huckleberry, Mccain and Co., then why does he think he has a chance now?

Presidential ambition is nature's way of telling you that you have too much money.

"Who would have him on their ticket? "

Obama? LOL! They both have a lot in common (healthcare, socialism, etc...), and Obama could have a VP with good hair instead of plugs!

I love it. Finally some Republicans are getting that Romney is a liberal.

Willard has an MA Form 1099-HC problem.

No amount of Bain & Company nuancing will explain away his signature.

in my very humble opinion, it is bad form to turn down this endorsement. it makes the guy seem like a prick. romney is a liberal republican, so what? for his part of the country he’s very conservative. either way, you can accept the endorsement without accepting ALL his views.

Reagan took Bush. I don't think it was out of any great love for George H.W. Bush, but out of a need to get the RINO wing of the party united behind the only genuinely conservative candidate in half a century or more.

We got eight years of genuinely conservative government, four years of mushy RINO government (during which we got one bad and one great SCOTUS nominee) and the collapse of the Soviet Empire. Not a bad trade-off.

Of course, if there is a way to put two conservatives on the ticket, all the better . . .

I like the way you think. It’s a PERFECT match and will cover the span of all the lefties - from the radical to the not so radical.

“If he couldn’t get to first base against Huckleberry, Mccain and Co., then why does he think he has a chance now?”

Of course you are right, but I’m sure he thinks it’s “his turn” now.

And if there is ONE thing the Republicans need to stop doing it is stop nominating people because it is their turn.

I actually think we had NO good candidates last time (full disclosure I was a Giuliani supporter and still can’t believe how bad he messed that up. Iowa should put up a statue of him, since no candidate will ever skip over that state again).

In hindsight, Romney might have been a good president to have now.

And hey, at least none of our guys hate America, so there’s that.

But Romney could not get through to the Evangelicals, and he won’t get through to them this time either.

He really should just hang it up.

The man knows his state and it’s the absolute perfect thing to do. They do not like Romney there. Romney needs to stay where he is wanted.

Very well said, as was your entire post. Been my philosophy for a long time now.

Folks, we just can’t let 2012 be a repeat of ‘08 which is dangerously close to resulting in the demise of this republic. We MUST get b. hussein obama out at any and all costs or you can kiss it goodbye. The example of Reagan’s reasoning is spot on. Our candidate must be a unifier - not divisive, and - electable! Also, that candidate (unlike McCain) has GOT to run a rock-solid, non-PC (even ruthless if necessary) campaign against arguably the worst enemy of this country to ever occupy the people’s White House.
