one should keep in mind that conservative third-party candidates will almost assuredly result in democrat victories, and will thus be an act of political (and, in at this point, national) suicide if not carried out very, very delicately.

It's up to the GOP to decide whom they choose to run. I agree, a third party would be a certain disaster for the country, not for the GOP. I couldn't care less about the GOP.

And yes, trolls and phonies will try really hard to split the conservative vote.

Let's see what the manuals says about counterguerilla warfare. We know, there is already a huge split between run-of-the-mill "progressives" and fire-breathing nail-spitting burn-the-place down "progressives." I will start contributing heavily to the latter...

No one party owns my vote. I'm a small-government conservative/libertarian first.

Very good comments. To that end, I would argue, not that the Tea Party must passively acquiesce in the GOP and mutely accept whomever the powers-that-be want to run in the elections, but that the Tea Party do (as it has been doing) what it must to wrest control of the GOP from the punters and pilot-fish who have become liberal collaborationists, make a truce with those in the GOP with whom we have sufficient common ground (i.e., leave the fighting over the finer points of policy for a later date), and give the GOP leadership a carrot as well as a stick to encourage them to back as many candidates who are acceptable to the Tea Party as we can muster. We don't have the time or the breathing space to debate the finer points of policy right now, or differentiate between the subtle shades thereof; we need to follow the more brightline rules such as "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

I was thinking the same thing. Who died and made Palin queen. She’s not the leader of the Tea Party but she yaps like she is.

This is a status quo dream come true. What a way for the Rinos/liberals to hijack and shrink the movement fast. Palin has already done major damage to the conservative movement in Arizona. She can stop it now.

In many places, the best candidate will be with America's Independent Party. Soem Republicans and few Democrats are worthy of Tea Party support. It's a transpartisan coalition.

The fact is that AIPers, Constitutionalsits, Libertarians, and others have focused most of their fire on Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and the Democrats. But they don't let the GOP off the hook, which is what really bothers you. They're teh ones who ran off Dede Scozzafava and Charlie Crist, whom the Republibots would hve foisted on us had conservatives of all stripes not stood up and said not only no but H--- no!
