We're not talking about a burning 'desire to excel', we were talking about someone who has to be 'drafted' for a political job, as not being likely to do a very good job, that was what you stated. I cited George Washington:
"The Electoral College elected Washington unanimously in 1789, and again in the 1792 election; he remains the only president to receive 100% of the electoral votes. John Adams was elected vice president. Washington took the oath of office as the first President under the Constitution for the United States of America on April 30, 1789 at Federal Hall in New York City although, at first, he had not wanted the position."[emphasis mine - mkj]
Washington did not seek out the Presidency, it (and history) sought him out.

at first, he had not wanted the position."He had decided that just after he chopped down his father's cherry tree and just before he threw a dollar across the Rappahonack River, I presume.

Sounds like you're the one who hasn't spent much time reading Washington's biographies.

I believe that it is generally accepted idea today that while Washington was not consumed by ambition, he did not have to be convinced to take up his offices. They idea that he had to be unwillingly coaxed into these positions went out with parson Weems.

I totally agree, did not know he was interested. I would back Duncan over pretty much anyone!
Steele is weak on guns...he is wishy washy on gays , supports affirmative action and supports DC statehood. That just about sums up why he does not belong as head of the party.

Excellent suggestion Gene!
Ol’ Tom would kick ass, take names, and take no prisoners.
And the ‘Rats hate his guts, which means he’s got the ‘right stuff’.
I’m liking that idea as much (maybe even a little more) than my guy (Duncan Hunter), either one would be superb as RNC chair.
