CAMPAIGN SPOT WATCH: KILGORE
This positive ad uses the proverbial soccer mom to spotlight some of Kilgore's major initiatives as attorney general. With smiling children and suburban-looking women, it also changes the mood from the emotional death-penalty ads he began running last week. There is no mention of Kilgore's opponents.

Two Kilgore ads feature Allen, public safety

RICHMOND, Va. -- Republican Jerry Kilgore bolstered his already robust schedule of television advertising Tuesday with a new ad that features his mentor, U.S. Sen. George Allen.
I still think we have a good chance of a 3-way sweep on Nov. 8th.
Kilgore tried to get Cinderella removed from public school libraries because it deals with themes of "Witchcraft!"
I hope you're right.
What are you doing over on DU?????
Are you out of your mind?????
Have you had your shots? Visa, passport, CCP?

Three-way sweep!?! I'll take it!
Kilgore champions rural roots
By Christina Bellantoni
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
October 19, 2005
Jerry W. Kilgore often evokes his hometown of Gate City while campaigning to be Virginia's next governor.
The small town in Southwest Virginia is filled with good people with good values, and he and twin brother Terry grew up on a tobacco and cattle farm and learned about the benefit of hard work, he says.
"Growing up in Gate City, some things mattered a lot, and others didn't matter much at all," Mr. Kilgore says in a biographical video explaining his rural roots. "Responsibility mattered, hard work mattered, family and faith mattered."
It's those values the Republican professes as he touts a reform agenda on the campaign trail.
Mr. Kilgore was the first in his family to go to college. After law school, he served as an assistant commonwealth's attorney for Scott County, Va., and as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia.
In 1994, then-Gov. George Allen, a Republican, tapped Mr. Kilgore, then 32, to be his secretary of public safety. Mr. Kilgore worked with Mr. Allen when the Allen administration abolished parole. Mr. Kilgore managed 11 state agencies, including the Virginia State Police and the Department of Corrections.

Kilgore touts 'biggest endorsement in N. Va.'
By Dominic Bonaiuto
10/12/2005
Republican Jerry Kilgore says last week's endorsements from the political action committees of Northern Virginia's premier business and technology organizations are proof that he has the momentum heading into the last month of a tight gubernatorial race.
The Northern Virginia Technology Council's TechPAC endorsed Kilgore Tuesday, Oct. 4, and he picked up the backing of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce's NOVABizPAC two days laterthe same day he won support of the locally based National Rifle Association.
"I received the biggest endorsement in rural Virginia and the biggest endorsement in Northern Virginia on the same day," Kilgore said Monday afternoon, appearing at the chamber's offices in Tysons Corner. "This is a major step in our efforts."
The endorsement is also significant given that the chamber has historically opposed key elements of Kilgores agenda. It supported last years tax reform package, which Kilgore fought, and, during the 2003 county board races, the chamber objected to Republican proposals to cap the real estate tax rate, something Kilgore is now suggesting statewide.

Editorial
RE: Brad Marrs
When it comes to the death penalty, Virginia Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine is in danger of morphing into the 2005 version of Michael Dukakis. That's a very bad position to be in in the Old Dominion, which Mr. Dukakis lost by 21 percentage points to George H.W. Bush in 1988, and where a recent poll showed Virginians favoring the death penalty by a margin of more than 3-1.
...Indeed, few issues have defined Mr. Kaine's legal and political careers as much as his across-the-board opposition to the death penalty...
A question arose this morning when I was out doing a little campaigning and I'm hoping you know the answer to it. It's only been a few years since the GOP took over the Virginia General Assembly and one of the changes they made was requiring that the ballots on Election Day indicate the party affiliation of each candidate. Has this new ballot been in effect since we've had a gubernatorial election? Was it in place four years ago or is this year the first year? I couldn't remember! Thanks!
I had to look it up but it took effect on January 1, 2001. So yes, it was present the last time we voted for Governor.
Thanks for figuring that out!

Re New Mason-Dixon Poll
With just two weeks to go until Election Day, Jerry Kilgore has the momentum and lead in the polls thanks to the support and dedication of thousands of Virginians just like you. The new Mason-Dixon poll released today has Jerry Kilgore leading Tim Kaine 44% to 42%. This poll, however, confirms what we have known all along: this race will be close and we cannot afford to take anything for granted - nor will we.
This poll confirms that Virginians are seeing through Tim Kaine's misleading and negative TV and radio ads, web sites, and cynical rhetoric. Moreover, this poll shows that Tim's Kaine's negative ratings have almost doubled since the last poll. Even his endorsement ad from Mark Warner failed to give his campaign the lift they were hoping for because Virginians want a Governor who doesn't stand in the shadow of another - but rather an individual with a record of accomplishment and who shares their values.
Jerry Kilgore has a record of accomplishment as Secretary of Public Safety and Attorney General in bringing about common sense reforms to improve the lives of all Virginians, and shares the values of a majority of individuals in the Commonwealth. As Governor, Jerry Kilgore will work for Better Pay for Better Teachers so that our children get a better education; provide a $500 education tax credit; get traffic and commerce moving again; continue his work to combat gangs and domestic violence; address the growing crisis of those illegally in this country; and create a Commonwealth of Opportunity with 250,000 net new jobs, and reducing the tax burden on Virginia businesses and families.
With a race this close, every vote will matter. It is going to come down to our final Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) operation and we need your support to ensure our GOTV effort is fully funded and staffed. Please consider making a contribution today to help fund the GOTV program or sign up to volunteer for one four-hour shift in the last 96 hours of the campaign.
Bill Clinton just raised $1.5 million at two events for Kaine while John Kerry is sending out emails to his supporters asking them to volunteer for Tim Kaine. Exactly what does this liberal support say about his trivial claims that he is a Virginia conservative? Needless to say, we need your help to counter the resources these national liberal politicians have generated for the Kaine campaign.
Jerry and Marty are appreciative of your efforts and generous assistance to get us to this point in the campaign. They are working tirelessly day in and day out to keep the momentum headed in the right direction - and we need you to continue to assist them by talking to your friends and neighbors about the importance of electing Jerry Kilgore as Virginia's next Governor. The "Countdown to Victory" has begun and we are in a strong position to win on November 8. Thank you again for all of your hard work and dedication to our winning cause.
I hope you will take a moment to review some of the pertinent quotes and analysis from the various newspapers around the Commonwealth below:

Bottom Line: It ALL Comes Down to GOTV
"This poll says the race is a total tossup," said Larry J. Sabato, a political analyst at the University of Virginia who has monitored state politics for more than three decades.
"It could go either way. Last-minute events, gaffes and glitches will determine the result, along with the [get-out-the-vote] programs." (Richmond Times Dispatch, 10/23/05)
There is no trend to either one, Sabato said of Kilgore and Kaine. In that event, the closeness indicates that turnout and get-out-the-vote operations will make the difference. (Charlottesville Daily Progress 10/23/05)

Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the Contract with America
that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House for the first time in 40 years.
Under his leadership as Speaker, Congress passed welfare reform, passed the first balanced budget in a generation, and passed the first tax cut in 16 years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen our national defense and intelligence capabilities an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.
As an author, Newt has published nine books, including his most recent, "Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America." In his post-Speaker role, Newt has become one of the most highly sought-after public speakers, accepting invitations to speak before some of the most prestigious organizations in the world.
His interests range from health care, where his vision includes a 21st Century System of Health and Healthcare that is centered on the individual, prevention focused, knowledge intense, and innovation rich; to national defense, where he serves as a member of the Defense Policy Board and is the longest-serving teacher of the Joint War Fighting course for Major Generals.
A copy of Gingrich's book, "Winning the Future," will be available for purchase at the breakfast.
