I will say that from my perspective Kaine is winning the bumper sticker competition (which we all know is a highly scientific measure of a campaign's strength).
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!
From today's RTD:
Kilgore: Transportation funds necessity, not nicety
by Tyler Whitley
Republican gubernatorial candidate Jerry W. Kilgore says he wants to make transportation funding a regular part of the general fund budget.
While I'd certainly rather see Jerry saying he'll give the surplus back to the people, we've discussed before that isn't registering with most of the sheeple. It does make sense to make transportation a regular part of the budget rather than something we'll do "when we have the money."
And personally, I like the idea of the Inauguration in Williamsburg. NOTE TO SELF: Call this week for reservations.
Kaine says Oceana can be saved
He and other officials trying to make case for keeping it open
by Bill Geroux
NORFOLK - Lt. Gov. and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Timothy M. Kaine expressed confidence yesterday that defenders of Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach could present a convincing case to save the jet base in the latest round of base closings.
This is all being orchestrated to make it look like Kaine has an interest, and even some credibility with military issues. Tell me, if calls need to be made to President Bush, Thelma Drake and yes, even Jawn Warner, who's gonna get thru first?
Time for a gubernatorial task force on the wretched heat and humidity
by Ray McAllister
He has a point. It makes as much sense as Gilmore's Shark Task Force.
Virginia's surplus tops $544 million
Windfall is sure to spark renewed debate in the governor's race
Gov. Warner, who won a $1.4 billion package of tax increases 14 months ago, welcomed the additional cash, which translates to almost $73.57 per Virginian.
"Virginia's economy continues to outperform the nation, and Vir- ginia's unemployment rate is among the lowest in the nation" Warner noted. "This unanticipated revenue will not be used to create new programs."
"The lion's share will go to the rainy day fund," he said, noting that the fund will exceed $1.1 billion and is near its constitutional limit.
$73 may not seem like a lot to horse face........but let's see, that's about what we paid for a swimming pool for our daughter last week, had that $73 been in our wallet we could have purchased the next size larger pool. Or the money could have been used for her swimming lessons, or soccer camp.
And the cut in the grocery sales tax is an utter joke, it has made absolutely no difference in my weekly grocery bill, because of the increase in the sales tax on non-food items.
It's fitting, sort of. He ran Capital One almost completely out of Richmond City with a 25% surcharge on data connections. The only Capital One building left there is because the type of employee they have there wouldn't necessarily have the means to commute to the West End or Goochland.
But alas, all those functions are being outsourced. When it is, that building will close as well.
